Folks can’t handle it man. Fact is we haven’t arrived yet. Maybe we do Saturday, but this far we’ve shown nothing. I’m glad AR is terrible.
Folks can't handle it? LOL Ole wise one leads us. lol You so inconsistent sometimes. You were all " UF sucks we are going to kill them" then you get one piece of bad news about Tillman and its, "we haven't done anything" Which poster has said we have arrived? Its not about arriving, its about confidence in this team to get it done. Your statement "but this far we have shown nothing" is really an insult to what this team has done on the road to a team that was higher ranked than us. What's up with that ole wise one? LOL

Vols are better than I thought actually coming into season. I expected 8-4. Now I’ve put eyeballs on everyone. Nobody is as good as they thought/think they are besides UGA. So now I say we have a realistic shot to get to 10 with some breaks.

It’s a damn fun time to be a Vol fan.

Yeah before the season I felt LSU & Florida were going to be "show me" type wins. Now after seeing what Napier/Kelly have done so far I'm more leaning that those are wins.

But I'm not going to be disappointed if we finish 8-4...injuries, bad officiating, off nights on offense, lots of things can derail us in games we should win.

Thanks for the acknowledgement. About time I get the proper recognition I deserve.

I believe Heupel and the team would agree that we played terrible against Pitt and we’re very fortunate that our defense laid the smack down on Slovis.

Plenty of posters are acting like we’re just gonna go out there and smash UF. We might do it. But again, we haven’t proved it yet. Nobody knows how good UT is or isn’t as of today.

I don't really disagree with the notion that we haven't really shown a complete game yet. We've made too many mistakes, especially in that Pitt game, to definitively say otherwise.

But the value in saying that is the issues we do have are within our control to fix.

It's not like we're looking at this matchup and wondering how we're gonna outplay them, or if we even can.

It's real simple... Don't kill ourselves... We won't get killed.

That 2nd half against Pitt... Two turnovers, blocked punt, Pitt missing fgs, gawd knows how many penalties... Just really kept finding ways to crap our pants...

And... More good news... Even tho we did all that... Each and every time someone responded by making a play. And we did that enough to win the game anyway. When's the last time you could say that about a game that matters?

Everyone knows how we can lose this game. We've all seen it... Many times.

But this team this year... Is a problem. And I just think we finally take the opportunity being presented.

It's all mental. There are no real football reasons Florida should win this game. If they have more points than us at the end it'll be only because we had to help them...a lot... Just like Utah and South Florida did.

I agree with all of this.

Outside of 1 quarter and overtime it was horrible. All of those things you mention are part of what made it horrible. It’s okay to say that. Thankfully patti is terrible and couldn’t do anything about it.

That doesn’t mean we are bad. It means in the one game we have played we didn’t show that we are as good as we believe we are. It’s still yet to be seen.
The difference is, we have 3 games behind us. Pitt is likely better than Florida. We are playing at home. Florida playing first road game in the loudest place in the country.

Shoot, I’m at 9-3 or 10-2. But we’re going to have to play better than we did against Pitt to get there.

You said "folks just don't get it" and that "so far we have shown nothing." So beating a higher ranked team on the road even thought we didn't play the best is not showing nothing? That's an insult this this team that played their hearts out and beat a higher ranked team on the road. Maybe you didn't feel like they haven't showed anything but to me they showed me more in that game that I have seen here at UT in 10 years.

I said folks can’t handle the truth about how the offense played against Pitt. Go back and watch. It was bad. We all knew it then. I don’t care what stats you point out. Outside of one quarter we were terrible at Pitt on offense. That’s a fact and Jimmie’s should not be rustled when someone says that as they have been today. On offense, against the only team we have played with a pulse, we have not shown that we have arrived.

Further, on defense, we’ve been tested for one half. We played well in that half. But that’s it. Michigan state beat Akron 52-0 the week before us. They aren’t anointed as a great football team because of it.

LSU gonna be tough. I feel much, much better about FL but hell I’ll take a 1 point win if it’s needed

No doubt it wasn't sharp but you also not giving Pitt's D any credit. Pitts D is a lot better than what UF has shown.

Without Tillman –

Cedric came in with the 2018 class and for his first 2 years played behind 3 future NFL receivers in Callaway, Jennings, and Palmer. His 3rd year he was playing behind Palmer, Jones, and Hyatt. again behind 2 maybe 3 future NFL receivers. His 4th year, last year, he finally got his opportunity. The thing is I’ve never bought the idea that NOBODY knew about Tillman until last year because there have been at least a few people in this forum that thought Tillman could be a player based on the limited snaps he got behind our other guys at the time. I thought he flashed when he got on the field in those early years. I thought he was pretty athletic and looked the part. A lot of why I noticed that was, being a stargazer, I didn’t really expect all that much out of him when he first signed. I do agree though that not many people knew about Tillman or had any idea that he could be another NFL prospect for us. jmo.

Tillman is a big part of our offense, in the passing game. I think people think that’s determined by Hooker favoring Tillman among his other receivers but I think Golesh is calling the plays under Heupel’s tutelage so it may not be as much Hooker as it is the offensive intelligence directing the show. jmo.

Tillman has proved against the best teams in the league that he can either gain separation or win 50-50 balls. This year, at least in the Pitt game, he was our go-to guy. He had 17 catchable targets and made 9 receptions. He accounted for 6 first downs. On the year Tillman has 10 first down catches to lead the team. He had one TD reception in the Pitt game and that’s it for the year. So out of 9 TDs we’ve scored through the air so far this year, 8 have come from our other receivers. Overall, Tillman has accounted for one-third of our receiving first downs on the year. He’s also been credited with 4 drops.

Over one-third of the passes thrown to Tillman this year have been 50-50 balls. I think the staff may have been trusting him the most in those situations where separation is difficult for our receivers to come by. The thing is that Hyatt and McCoy have done well too so I think the staff will simply adjust and keep rolling.

We used a limited number of receivers against Pitt. If we are without Tillman the staff will have to pull someone else from our receiver room and send them into action against Florida. I think Merrill, Keyton, and Holiday are the likely candidates. We could see White and of course in the second half, Jimmy “fists of fury” Calloway should be available for duty. Here’s the thing about all those guys. They didn’t really play against Pitt but on the season we’ve thrown 102 passes, 11 of which were uncatchable, leaving 91 catchable targets. Tillman has a 68% catch rate on 25 of those targets. Hyatt had a 90% catch rate on 20. McCoy has a 73% catch rate on 11 catchable targets. Though it was against lesser competition our bench of Keyton, Merrill, Holiday, White, and Calloway, caught 20 of 21 of their catchable targets, 95+%.

We’ve had 14 catchable targets go to TEs, RBs, and walkons. I don’t think we’ll likely see any walkons in this game but we could target our TEs and RBs more this week than we have so far this year. jmo.

All of our receivers spent the offseason catching passes on the new jugs machine, by reports up to 10,000 passes per month (500 per day). I think that’s showing up in our catch rates. jmo.

Florida has a lot of “on paper” talent in their secondary, much more than Pitt. We should benefit from our scheme but whoever steps up to replace Tillman’s production is going to have to win one-on-one matchups against some pretty talented defenders. We have a number of talented guys behind our starters in our receiving room and those that have gotten onto the field so far this year have flashed. Now we wait to see who the staff rolls out there and what they have schemed up for the Florida secondary. I think we’re pretty well prepared and we have a number of guys in our receiving room probably hungry and salivating over the opportunity that they could have this Saturday. I think we’re probably good to go. jmo.
