Also, I think our passing defense gets a good bit better in the redzone. Less area to cover and WRs can't take advantage of our lack of speed there. Plus zone works better in that situation.
So essentially even if a team can run it down our throats they eat up clock and get into a situation where they typically have to settle for a field goal. Then our offense scores in 90 seconds and they do it again...by the time the dust settles they are dominating time of possession and still down 3 scores, and luckily for us the most points wins the game not time of possession.

First it's notifications. Now this farce of a game thread.
Our pets' heads are about to fall off!!!!
Helluva roundabout.Magic Roundabout in the UK. Can't really explain it cause they drive on the wrong side of the road. Crazy Brits.
I've designed a few roundabouts in my time however. It's the superior intersection design over stop signs and signals. Far safer too. America needs to embrace them like Europe.
Yea I don't see LSU holding us to less than what they held awful Auburn.Having a bad case of BVS, so I checked the stats! They have played 3 P5 teams (FSU, MissSt, Aub) that are similar to our 2 (Pitt, UF). With a highly unscientific deduction and equivalence method, here are some predictions.
Rushing
LSU rushing (5.1 yds/att) looks like a cross between Florida (6.2) and Pitt (4.1)
Prediction: LSU runs for 3.0 yards/att
- UT run D is good (2.96 yds allowed/att) and the best LSU will face (Aub is at 3.7yd/att)
- LSU had 3.8 yd/att against Aub, UT allowed about 3.5 yd/att against Florida and Pitt
UT Rushing (4.5 yd/att) looks like FSU (5.1) and MSU (4.2)
Prediction: UT rushes for 3.0 yds/att
- LSU run D allows 3.4 and the best we face (Pitt allows 3.8)
- UT had a miserable 2.6 yds/att against Pitt, LSU allowed 3.5 against FSU/MSU
Passing
LSU passing (7.7 yds/att) looks like Pitt (8.3)
Prediction: LSU is no good against average pass D, and get 6.0 yds/att
- UT pass D (6.9 allowed/att) looks like Aub (6.5) and FSU (6.0)
- LSU was highly inconsistent and passed for about 4.5 yds/att against Aub and FSU, UT allowed 6.2 vs Pitt
UT passing is elite (11.3 yds/att) and FSU (9.4) is the best LSU has faced
Prediction: Heisman Hooker continues his campaign for 8.5 yds/att
- LSU pass D allows 6.7 yds/att and looks like Pitt (6.3) and UF (7.5)
- UT passed for 7.7 against Pitt and 12.5 vs UF, LSU allowed 7.9 vs FSU
Total plays and yards
UT runs 43 times a game and faces 33, LSU runs 39 times and faces 32
UT passes 33 a game and faces 45, LSU passes 34 passes a game, faces 27
Final Predictions;
UT runs 37 times, 3.0 yds/att for 111
LSU runs 40 times, 3.0 yds/att for 120
UT passes 30 times, 8.5 yds/att for 255
LSU passes 40 times, 6.0 yds/att for 240
That’s 366 yards UT, 360 yards LSU yikes!
This will be closer than some think. Will do an analysis for points scored per drive next. That’s where we really thrive I hope!
Buddy, Slovis had 200 yards at half. That's on pace to doing exactly what AR did two weeks ago with 400 yards passing. Those deflected passes were by the front who played really well that game. The back did not play great. We are thankful for that pass rush because if not they probably score on that pass that was intercepted in the end zone. And more thanks to our front because if they didn't take Slovis out there's no telling what happens in the second half because our offense didn't play their best that day. Not to mention there were receivers wide open in the second half, but Patti wouldn't start for Bowling Green and couldn't hit them. No one can argue that our secondary is playing well right now. It's preposterous. We have to get to the QB.The back end played well also….. they threw the ball 24 times and would have been at 50% passing if not for two deflected passes that they caught…. They had one big break down on the catch where the guy hurdled our player. The defense wasn’t getting there typically with four guys…. We were blitzing heavily including NB and CB …. That really stresses your secondary. I’m hoping that they feel comfortable playing that style with Burrell out for the season…. They trusted him more and was able to roll coverages to help our younger CBs.
Bend but don’t break defense …. I want us to be like we were at Pitt…. Balls to the wall on defense…. It is awesome our red zone defense has been so well.Yup. We score TDs and the defense plays bend but don’t break defense. Limit the big plays that lets teams keep up and force them to sustain drives and then have to really execute in the red zone. UT is 15th in the nation in Red Zone Defense allowing a TD/FG only 68% of the time.
And what's more, we will score. It won't be yards with no points. We will score on explosive plays and in the red zone. Unless Daniels has a career day, which he might considering our defense, this game won't be close imo.Yea I don't see LSU holding us to less than what they held awful Auburn.
Auburn had 438 yards against them...
We average 559 yards per game which is the best in the country...
Auburn is 80th in yards per game.
We'll need to be off our game significantly to go for 366 coming off a bye
Slovis had 2 TO’s and should have had more. There’s no guarantee he protects the ball in the second half like their backup did.Buddy, Slovis had 200 yards at half. Both turnovers were a result of what? One was a strip sack by Baron. The other was an overthrow because he was being pressured. Yep, our front played great in that game.Slovis had 2 TO’s and should have had more. There’s no guarantee he protects the ball in the second half like their backup did.
I hate that LSU barely squeaked by a bad Auburn team but we need to play our very best to beat them. I don't doubt that's correct, and LSU will probably play their best game of the season against us.
But man, it'd be nice to play a completely lethargic and uninterested LSU on the road and just wallop them. But nah, we get the hungry LSU that's figuring out that hey, maybe they're pretty good and can actually win games this season and oh, here's a top 10 opponent at home we can beat that will further propel us back into relevancy.
Winning is more fun when you beat good teams. Should be another exciting one to watch
In the Pittsburgh game….. Slovis had 7 total possessions…. We held them to 5 positive defensive possessions where they kicked a field goal(1) or we got the ball back…. They only had two td possessions out of 7 in the first half…. One of them a 1 play 76 yd run.Buddy, Slovis had 200 yards at half.
