Dr. Punch said the surgery Tillman had usually turns that high ankle sprain into about a 6-8 week turnaround. He did say though that if it's not a pad sprain (meaning not as much ligament tearing) the recovery from it would be quicker.

Tua wash rushed back from his and being he plays QB where he has less need to plant and change directions it was easier.

Don't know the exact day Tillman had the surgery so not sure if this is week 2 or 3 of his recovery. I have a feeling that the goal was to try and get him back for Bama.

Their defense is definitely better. Their offense is not. So its a wash but its in Death Valley. Gonne be another close game.

Their defense hasn't played anyone yet though...Auburn (who is one of the worst offenses in the SEC) had 438 yards and scored 17. FSU had 392 yards and scored 24. The other 3 teams they played don't even have a pulse on offense.

They definitely have talent. But i also wonder if the lack of stability in their defensive scheme works in our favor somewhat. You better know exactly what you're doing and play sound football at all 3 levels or we will find your weakness and make a mockery of it.

I think thats why Pitt did such a good job of adjusting to us in the 2nd half. Veteran group with a clear identity and understanding of what they're trying to do. Florida in year one of new coach. We didnt punt.

People are not even realizing that the defense forced 6 fourth downs....normally that is a punt or FG attempt and ergo...much less yardage. Napier went full retarded football and he got extremely lucky...period, and it skewed the stats.

I've watched it several times now, and yes there were busts, but there were also a lot of great plays...imo the defense did not play near as badly as the stats indicate.

As much as our offense can score, I think teams will regularly go for it on 4th because our offense puts pressure on the other team to keep up. Just need the defense to take care of business a few times in those situations for a game to get out of hand for us.

I can watch from my couch and see their defense is better than Florida. Its pretty obvious regardless of their schedule.

Last season the fifth game was an SEC road game against the Tigers and the Vols put together their first complete game in a blowout. A lot of folks expected that one to be close. History about to repeat itself?

If you need a mixer, you're drinking the wrong bourbon.

Of course, there are plenty of bourbons that should only be drunk with mixers. I try to avoid them.

I generally drink scotch or bourbon neat. However, I do love a good double old fashioned and typically use the affordable bourbons for that. Such a good cocktail.

That is a good point

It seemed like Kelly’s other teams struggled a little against more wide open teams….. hope that remains true.

Especially the long pass on, I think, 4th and 2. They were extremely fortunate to connect on that play.

Well holding a team to 88 total yards of offense in a game skews the hell out of your stats. New Mexico is BAAAAD though, they somehow are 2-3, but have only had over 300 total yards in one game this season. And Boise State held them to 123 total yards.

Their defense should look good when they are playing a weaker schedule though.

They may be better than Florida on defense, just saying nothing they've put on tape so far has me convinced and Florida to their credit has played 3 teams that have been ranked in the top 10 this year already.

Should give us a couple of more "turnovers" a game. I don't think we can expect horseshoes up every team rectum the rest of the year like UF had.

Josh Heupel was 7-5 his first year as OU's QB in 1999, after 12 years of being terrible.

The following year they started 4-0 before their first ranked match in a brutal stretch of 4 games vs #11 Texas. They won that game 63-14.

The following game they faced #2 Kansas State and won 41-31.

The very next game, they faced #1 Nebraska, a team they lost to by a score of 69-7 the last time they played. They won this time, 31-14 to become 7-0 on the year.

Two weeks later, they played and defeated #23 Texas A&M 35-31.

This sounds a whole lot like what's happening at UT right now. Finished last year 7-5 in the regular season. Start this year 4-0 and then face a brutal 4 game stretch of top 25 games, including battles with the #1, #2, #25 & #13 teams.

Could history repeat itself?

Heupel had meetings with his teammates after the 1st season, putting out his plan on how they are going to win each game and finish as National Champions. After the past 13 years as a mediocre or bad team, no one ever expected they would win a national title, but Heupel believed it and prepared for it, the same as he's doing here.

Heupel is also in his 2nd year as HC, the same as Stoops @ OU when they won the title back then.

*this is pretty much a synopsis of an article in "The Athletic". It's not word for word, just my interpretation of the article.

Here’s an article written shortly after that game. The parallels to our season are uncanny. It’s long, but the part focusing on Heupel is a really good read and should be encouraging for anyone still wondering about the character of that man (as well as anyone who doesn’t need convincing):
