I would guess it is as simple as Merrill is the back up to Bru but not one of the top 4 to 6 or receivers so they will move around receivers to get the best ones on the field at one time.Hmm. Between the VQ and 247 guys, and tidbits from the staff, it looks like we're gonna be lining guys up all over the place and seeing what sticks. Tillman's spot and role are locked, obviously, but I'll be interested to see the WR corps evolve. Maybe we'll have different WR groups for different situations, like how hockey teams have lines.
Merrill has been really talked up recently, so it's entirely possible he is one of those top 4 or 6 WRs. Especially if he has a full grasp of the system.I would guess it is as simple as Merrill is the back up to Bru but not one of the top 4 to 6 or receivers so they will move around receivers to get the best ones on the field at one time.
i'm still not convinced Turrentine or Walker doesn't either wind up starting or find themselves on the field a lot. i do know this, i think for the first time, in a while, we actually have some relatively quality depth at every position in the defensive backfield. that's not say we're awesome at every spot...but it feels like they have some flexibility and if we do need to put another guy in, there really isn't any expectation of a drop off in production. I like Hadden a lot, he had a few struggles last season, but there were times he also really looked like that dude. From what Tim Banks said today, it would appear Tank/Flowers will be the starting safeties. Burrell one of the CB spots and TMac at STAR. I think Hadden starts at the other CB spot if this is the lineup for the secondary.

if our depth in the front 7 can hold up, i think our defense can make a huge jump in production from last year to this. and i think it's important to realize that doesn't mean they have to be a top 10 or 20 defense. top 40 would be a huge jump from last year. especially against the pass and on 3rd down.
