When you think you think about it last year we did have better pressure from the edge than the year before. So now with a year under their belt in the system and better depth I can wait to see how much this D has improved. The one I hope surprises on the Dline is Eason. Not that I don't want the others to stand out but being his first year inside and we all know how much help we need there. I am nervous about Burrell. He got bunt so many times last year but hopefully he has improved. So Banks likes our DL, thinks the edge has improved a ton. We really need to generate pressure and ruin QBs on 3rd down, so I hope that's true.
Thinks third down defense will be better, thank god.
Likes our depth, thinks we're way ahead of where we were last year from a roster standpoint.
Very pleased with the LBs, seems like. I'll take that.
Safeties and Star seem like they're looking good, based on what he said.
I am still worried about our CBs, I think that everyone is. Banks didn't talk bad about them, but it's the only position group that he didn't have something really great to say. Cornerback reads like it's going to be an adventure this year. We'll have to see if our front-7 can generate enough pressure to help the corners.
If we're chasing QB's around and giving them a lot of time, which was a common problem last year, it's gonna be rough on defense.
As much as our defense is on the field, there will be plenty of playing time. Fresh bodies would be nice. You could see how tired they got last year.i'm still not convinced Turrentine or Walker doesn't either wind up starting or find themselves on the field a lot. i do know this, i think for the first time, in a while, we actually have some relatively quality depth at every position in the defensive backfield. that's not say we're awesome at every spot...but it feels like they have some flexibility and if we do need to put another guy in, there really isn't any expectation of a drop off in production. I like Hadden a lot, he had a few struggles last season, but there were times he also really looked like that dude.
if our depth in the front 7 can hold up, i think our defense can make a huge jump in production from last year to this. and i think it's important to realize that doesn't mean they have to be a top 10 or 20 defense. top 40 would be a huge jump from last year. especially against the pass and on 3rd down.
Hopefully wearing our all white uniforms will keep everyone fresh enough to be able to compete for 4qtrs when we wear the all black uniforms. I hope the black helmet doesn't push them over limit of what they can stand. As much as our defense is on the field, there will be plenty of playing time. Fresh bodies would be nice. You could see how tired they got last year.
