For anyone interested in just how high and fast we can go (military, not UT haha) … this jet is from the Vietnam era. It’s been decommissioned for years.

It’s capable of flying damn near Mach3, and at the edge of space around 90,000 feet. Absolutely mental we could do this in the 1960’s. Up there with the Saturn V.

Cool story bro time...when my Dad was in the AF is the early 60s, he worked on the Saturn 5 tests.

They didn't give you guys ear protection? When I was in the Air Force and on the flight line, they made us wear ear plugs when we were out there

If you are the flight deck you best believe you are wearing ear protection. Required to wear a flight deck helmet complete with over ear protection and goggles. That’s non negotiable.

What I was talking about is my sleeping quarters are above the hanger bay, but below the flight deck. That was still incredibly loud even being probably 4-6 stories of separation between my barracks and the flight deck.
