I have no doubt Lane would go, but I think it would be a mistake on his part. That program is a dumpster fire, and they expect a quick turnaround. I just don't believe Lane can turn it all around that fast. He's not Josh Heupel.

I’m sure he’s different in the locker room and practice field but Lane doesn’t seem like a fun guy to play for anymore. Heupel isn’t jaded like he is from a head coaching perspective.

We are #14 in On3 and #12 on 247.

Yeah we are NOT doing to hot in the overall rankings and probably need to pick it up on recruiting trail.

I think some of the issues is that a class like this would have been great 10-15 years ago but now we have to go against Saban so you need 3-4 5 stars, about 12 4 stars, and some very good 3 stars.
We beat Saban this year.

We won't finish Top 5 this year. We very well could next season and going forward. The success we're having now impacts those future classes more so than the current one.

Josh Heupel is an excellent coach. Trust in him.

I get that but there seems to be some truth. Since Saban took over, Alabama has been in top 3 or so every year.

I think he landed the #1 class his first year at Alabama.

Kirby Smart took over and did same thing at Georgia.

You can see the feedback from these posters in this thread: Big Week in SEC Next Week

Granted one is a Georgia fan but they are right that you really need to be in that top 5 range to be elite.

Are we not elite right now?

Yeah, I hope we can buck the trend. We definitely have detractors in other discussions that I am having.

Perhaps the sport is changing.

We are pretty far down the SEC pecking order right now, though :(. Even Florida is ahead of us in nearly every rankings.
We're #2 in the country. Where's Florida.

Yes, I know you mean recruiting, but recruiting means nothing if it doesn't translate to the field.

For us, yes. However, I think we will still be chasing Alabama and Georgia hoping for upsets until we start recruiting at their level. I won't lie, though, I would be totally happy with that compared to where we have been.

We could clean house in December once the staff is done with the season. I am probably just being a worry wart because I am listening to fans on other boards (notably Michigan fans who keep talking about recruiting as their excuse for why they cannot compete with Ohio State regularly).
You make my head hurt.

You need to pick a new identity. This one is becoming very unbecoming.
Jeez...just because I am not a relentless photon pumper doesn’t make me any less of a fan than any of you guys. I see what I see, but when they prove me wrong for being pessimistic then that is exactly what I want to happen. The feeling I get when they vastly exceed my expectations is freaking awesome, conversely I hate thinking we are definitely going to win and then getting completely gutted.

The things I say aren't crazy off the wall crap, people just don't want to hear it.

Hubbs on raise, buyout details, and timing:

1. I think they will pay Heupel. I don't know exact number, but he's getting a raise.
2. He owes 8 million if he leaves. That's pretty hefty by coaching contracts these days. Remember Heupel has all the leverage here and his agent knows it.
3. I know Danny White likes to do things all at once with his coaches and in the middle of the off-season, but I would think it would be sooner than that, but we will see.
