The only thing established with Colquitt was that it was his turn, he had 60 total passes thrown going into his senior season. Beating out Helton, Manning and Stewart was somewhat expected
It was neck and neck competition between Shuler and Colquitt before Heath ran with it. He doesn’t blow out his knee first drive and that’s an epic season imo. Peyton was working from behind.

Does anyone see a possibility that anyone outside the top 3-4 teams will make noise once the playoffs expand? It’d be wild to see a 10-12 seed when a national title.
Yes, because I predict it will create more parity (in addition to the NIL parity bump). Recruits will see that they don't have to go to Notre Dame, Bama, OU, OSU, Georgia, Clemson etc to have an opportunity to play in the playoffs. Now there's 3x-4x as many schools that have the playoffs within reach any given year.

I think that will reduce the talent gap between schools at the top. A 5 star will sit at Bama for 3 years just to play 1, and a big reason is because they're practically guaranteed to compete for a playoff and title then get drafted after 1-2 good seasons. That same athlete can make the 12 team playoff playing 3-4 years at Oklahoma State, earning more with NIL as the big fish in a small pond, have more of a fingerprint on the program's success.

It was never an even scale during the regular season. Oklahoma lost to Miami during the REGULAR SEASON and still played for the NC. Both Penn State and Auburn had epic undefeated seasons and never sniffed the championship. How was their regular seasons rewarded? The good ole boys decided before the season started and made the numbers work towards that.
No disagreement. But those were issues with Constraints placed on the post season because of the bowls and conferences.. and competing polls.

The changes that were made (BCS) were made to rectify that issue... That #1 and 2 simply were not ALLOWED to play many times because of how the post season was structured, not because there was a huge issue in how #1 or 2 were determined up to the point the bowls were played.

Get 1 and 2 to play each other. That was the only goal when all this started.

Bcs solved that problem. Sort of. Computers and algorithms were its downfall. Playoff the top 4 was supposed to fix that, but the committee has been its downfall.

Every time they've tried to fix it, There's an overreaction in the correction. I think this is more of the same.

My 2 cents........ Playoffs with the BCS wouldve been a much better system. Takes the human bias out of things.

Pretty much agree. I'd take it step further.... They could have taken AP and coaches polls, done the average ranking for those 2, and played the top 4 before they ever got to the BCS. Both polls considered... No chance at split titles... And the champ is determined in the field. Jmo.
