Disagree. He thrives on blitzing that doesn't get home and creates lots of open field to run. That was exactly what we tried to do last season and why we were terrible vs running QB's. You hold your gaps and keep his butt in the pocket. Then you change up your coverages and hope to force him off his initial read and try to throw into windows in coverage. Will he hit some. Yes, he is talented. Will he make good decisions and throw accurately consistently the entire game? I think that is much less likely. In the open field we got no chance of slowing him down. If we let him make hot reads and let them dictate his throws by passing when the down and distance is in their favor.... won't be good.
Realistically we only need the defense to get a couple of early stops against UF and hold them anywhere from 3 - 10 points in the first half.....definitely won't be easy but I think we can do it. If we do that then I'm confident that our offense can put up 21 - 28 points in in the half and UF will have to mostly change their game plan. A strong performance by the front 6 and a combination of nickel/safety will be crucial in the first half. If we can make them play from behind then we mostly negate their strength.
Our OL worries me, though. They probably won't open a lot of running lanes and will give up some sacks but we have the QB and WRs to still do damage and Hendon running effectively and avoiding big hits is going to be another key.
We will know a lot more after Pitt....if we can't get some yards on the ground and give up sacks then that doesn't bode well against UF. I still think we win by 10 or 13. Our defense should be faster and stronger than Utah's and Richardson has yet to have multiple consistent performances in college. Napier is coaching smart by letting him be the aggressor but it won't last when they play fast and physical defenses.
