So we've been watching Picard on the Smart Tv we got post-TV smash/fall. A friend of my parents (also a huge Vol fan bc that's just who we are) had an extra Smart TV he wasn't using so we were not only able to watch the Vols play but we've been able to hook up services like Prime and Disney+. We've been watching a lot of his shows on the big screen which has been just a wonderful experience (I really didn't expect to enjoy this so much as before I rarely watched tv if it wasn't a Vol sporting event but I am absolutely loving all the things you can do with a Smart TV).
Last night, we started watching Picard and had a blast. We met when DS9 was in its final season and at that time the tv I had in my apartment picked up a station that broadcast the show a day before the Knoxville station did so we would all pile in and watch the show a day early. It brought back a lot of happy memories but one thing it did that surprised me is that it helped him cognitively. He struggles when his levels are off, especially with finding the right words for what he means to say, and not only have his levels been off but he's had that recent bout with pneumonia that he is still getting over but watching Picard suddenly the things that illness had blocked off in his brain were unlocked and he was back 100 percent instead of 95 or less (and usually 95 percent is something that is good enough to make me happy).
To put it into perspective, he'd awoken that morning thinking relatives who are long gone were still with us and downstairs and that construction was going on (it wasn't). But watching Picard, he's suddenly accessing memories and knowledge that he hasn't been able to access regularly since this illness began. It was genuinely just a really joy filled experience that I never would've expected from something as simple as watching a TV show.
At any rate, I don't always have happy updates with everything going on so I thought I would share some positive/happy news with everyone.
