Whaaaaaat. Naw.

Tyson was spectacular before he lost the magic.

Ali would have made him look foolish. Different era. Different class of fighter.
1984,85 to 1988 Mike Tyson...NO ONE was making look foolish. No one.

After those years...yes, Ali would have torn him apart, psychologically, then physically. Tyson would have been too smart/disciplined for it during the years I stated. Never forget, as I said, during those years, Tyson was one of the smartest boxers of all time...it gets overlooked, his boxing intelligence, because his unmatched ferociousness and power. Smarts, discipline, speed, balance, coordination, boxing ability, unbelievable power, and a never before seen or since...rage. Those years I stated, Iron Mike brought it ALL to the ring. Someone said it earlier, the moment he got rid of Kevin Rooney, was one of the biggest mistakes of his life. Tyson would be undisputed if he had not made that call. For what all came after Rooney, Tyson is not the GOAT, however.

But, 84,85-88,89...sheer savagery and absolute domination. And, I don't want to hear about the fighters of that day! He fought who was across from him, good or bad, just like every other heavyweight in history. It wouldn't have mattered WHO was fighting then anyway, he would have destroyed them, even Ali, and Ali is the second greatest ever.

And he was inspired by none other than Marty McFly after his cousin Marvin discovered him.
Credit Marty McFly for that

I would put Joe Frazier and George Foreman ahead of MT. and i like Mike Tyson.
Tyson in his prime had it all as a fighter. But the outside influences tore him down. He wasn't stable as a person after Cus died. It took a while for that to fully play out, but it eventually did. Don King, Robin Givens, then the pageant rape. Tyson fell apart. He was never the same again. I'm not saying Tyson is the greatest or could beat anyone in a prime vs prime fight, but he belongs in the discussion. He'd put up a good fight against Ali, Frazier, Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano.... Put him against anyone in a prime vs prime match up and he has a puncher's chance of taking it. He was built for boxing. Short, stout body. Thick neck that could absorb the blows. Tyson was a bad, bad man in his prime.

Tyson could go the distance. He did so against Bonecrusher Smith to win by unanimous decision and unite the WBC and WBA heavyweight titles. He did it again against Tony Tucker to win the IBF heavyweight title. I remember the hype when he was to fight Michael Spinks and he knocked the guy out in 91 seconds. Then they hyped the fight between Tyson and Carl "The Truth" Williams and Tyson knocked his ass out in 93 seconds. Tyson in his prime was a beast. His knockout of Joe Frazier's son, Marvis, in 30 seconds was one of the most brutal knockouts I've ever seen. He knocked the guy out in the corner and hit him like 2-3 more times before he hit the mat.

In their prime? Ali would have destroyed Tyson.
Either Tyson lands a knockout punch, or it goes to decision. And if it goes to decision, it could go either way. I don't think prime Ali had enough power to knock prime Mike Tyson out. He could outscore him, but it's not a guarantee he would.

"It's the Tennessee way! Anytime a team needs a win to get back on track and they play Tennessee they win!"

- people who conveniently forget the enumeral times a season we crush souls, even when the chips are down.
It has gotten really REALLY old...I've just come to realize more and more that people are stupid.

The mental battle would be won well before the fight. Ali would’ve made Tyson insane. Tyson would try to kill him and subsequently get himself knocked out in later rounds. People understate Ali’s greatness. He is hands down the greatest. This is the Jordan Lebron debate.

Disagree. We're talking about both in their prime. Mike Tyson in his prime was singularly focused. He would have used Ali's insults as fuel. And people seem to be willfully ignoring that Tyson was exactly the kind of fighter that gave Ali trouble. Tyson was Joe Frazier, but better.

Ali and Tyson were both great in their primes. You say people are understating Ali's greatness while you understate Tyson's greatness. Ali was not known as a power puncher. Tyson was. So if there was a knockout, it would most likely be Tyson knocking out Ali. Tyson showed he could go the distance, but no one could go the distance and absorb punishment quite like Ali. So going to the scorecards probably favors Ali, but it's always a toss-up if it gets to that point.

I understand the hero worship many have for Ali. He may have been the most cerebral fighter of all time. But prime Tyson was everything that gave Ali fits in the ring. And in his prime, Tyson was pretty good at the cerebral game as well. Not on Ali's level, but not the dummy some want to portray.

Tyson was not the kind of fighter that gives Ali trouble. Its a fundamental misunderstanding of Tyson to think hes anything like Frazier. Tyson was a midrange boxer and thats it. He didn't have the patience or mental discipline to fight inside like Frazier did.
