Tyson had knockout power in both hands against normal fighters, but as far as one punch power He wasn't Liston or Shavers. He threw the best combos Ive ever seen by a heavyweight and was really a swole up version of Floyd Patterson with a better chin. But he didn't have the chin guys like Ali, Frazier, Big George had. And his style was never going to lead to a long career. Patterson adapted after he lost the energy and agility to execute the peekaboo, but Tyson never did. Its a shame because his skillset and brains were good enough to remain great without Cus's style. He just didn't have his head right.
Liston was a beast. His knuckles were 12" wide, reportedly.

Disagree. We're talking about both in their prime. Mike Tyson in his prime was singularly focused. He would have used Ali's insults as fuel. And people seem to be willfully ignoring that Tyson was exactly the kind of fighter that gave Ali trouble. Tyson was Joe Frazier, but better.

Ali and Tyson were both great in their primes. You say people are understating Ali's greatness while you understate Tyson's greatness. Ali was not known as a power puncher. Tyson was. So if there was a knockout, it would most likely be Tyson knocking out Ali. Tyson showed he could go the distance, but no one could go the distance and absorb punishment quite like Ali. So going to the scorecards probably favors Ali, but it's always a toss-up if it gets to that point.

I understand the hero worship many have for Ali. He may have been the most cerebral fighter of all time. But prime Tyson was everything that gave Ali fits in the ring. And in his prime, Tyson was pretty good at the cerebral game as well. Not on Ali's level, but not the dummy some want to portray.
I grew up idolizing Tyson. I was destroyed when he was knock out by Buster. I was a kid then. As for Tyson being the type of fighter Ali wouldn't want to face? Ali faced Tyson after Tyson. Heavyweights used to stand in the ring throwing massive punches and always looking for a knockout. Ali changed the entire sport. He could fight any fight. He was never knocked out. He was only unanimously decisioned one time (Frazier because of a last round knock down). He was split decisioned by Ken Norton. His remaining losses came when he was suffering from early stages of Parkinson's. He was quicker and smarter than everyone he fought. His power was underrated. Much like the other poster said, Ali would pick Tyson apart and when Tyson came in, he would get tied up and frustrated. Think Holyfield but times 2. Tyson also had a short stint in his prime against a weak heavyweight division. Ali fought during boxings apex and against countless Hall of Fame boxers.

I say this tentatively because a man like Liston could've killed me with one punch and had a wretched life of pain and sorrow, but Liston's only weakness was heart. he had a good chin, could pulverize bone, could cut the ring off, stronger than big George, was close to perfect fundamentally, had great gameplans and could scare a crocodile. But if he was discouraged he was apt to just rollover.

Has anyone been following the soap opera going on with UF and it's former #1 recruit, a QB named Jaden Rashada? It seems he first committed to Miami but switched to UF due to what was supposedly a $13 million NIL deal with their NIL entity. But evidently issues have come up and he has requested a release from his signing.

Miami just lost their top QB recruit so they may go after him again but how weird would that be.
That'll be an odd conversation. "NCAA, I need out of my commitment b/c I was only going there for the payday and they defaulted on what they promised."

$13 million, and they gave us crap over Nico.

Plus, that change alone drops UF's recruiting class ranking on 247 four slots to #17 with no QB in the class and practically no QBs on their roster. Please let this be a crashing of the UF program. .

Interesting list based off of KO rate.

Y’all talking Ali vs Tyson…

The guy I would’ve loved to see either of them fight in their primes is Roy Jones Jr.

Ali was 6’3” with a 78” reach weighed about 215-225 in his prime

Roy was 5’11” with a 74” reach fought MW up to HW in his career (but I think 200-210 was a more natural weight for him)

Tyson was 5’10” with a 71” reach weight around 220 in his prime

Not saying Roy would beat either, just saying those fights would have been great to see.
