I wouldn't call him a cancer simply because he's shopped himself around. This is what the game has become. Wherever he ends up, he may 100% buy in and do just fine. I wish it was Tennessee because we need the help, and I think he's a good CB, something we sorely lacked this past season.
I see your argument I really do, but this seems to be the grade an example of someone Heupel doesn’t want in the program. I understand doing it in high school but ghosting the school again to go visit different schools and using us as a backup plan doesn’t fly with me. Once again I see your argument but I care to disagree

That’s the go to for any high talented athlete out there that doesn’t pick their school. “Cancer” “Headcase” etc. good lord it’s WAY overused. Used as an excuse usually by fanbases. But a reasonable person knows just because you’re highly rated doesn’t mean you are a head case cancer to humanity culture in a locker room. Plenty of examples to counter that bogus theory/excuse

Did he ever actually say yes to our coaches? Maybe he was upfront with them about wanting to explore his options? Without knowing how he handled the process it's hard for me to just write him off as a "cancer". It pisses me off that we're not the choice, and no, I don't wish him well because I'm a bitter a-hole, but that doesn't mean he didn't handle the process the right way. I don't know.

Exactly.

According to the Ole Miss mods, he did tell them he was going to Tennessee.

*Disclaimer - The opinion I'm about to state will be unpopular with some of you. Feel free to disagree with me in a respectful manner.

We struggle with portal recruiting. We don't suck at it, but we don't seem to be able to close on highly sought after players. Last year it was Verse. This year, it's Igbinosun. We can fill needs with adequate players, but when it comes to the portal, the big names seem to be just out of our reach. The possible exception being WR. But we could probably turn our waterboy into a stud WR. That's just how good Heupel is at offense.
I think Verse and Igbinosun were both chasing NIL. For whatever reason, Spyre is pretty determined not to be the highest paying collective when it comes to recruits and transfers...and I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. I think there's a lot going on behind the scenes that makes these situations a lot trickier than us fans realize.

Inevitably, some players are going to be worth more than others. I'm not sure how you figure it all out. I don't have all the answers. But the players that perform the best deserve to be paid the best. And the players that don't perform the best need to work hard at getting better if they want to be paid more. JMO.

The market will always dictate value. UGA or Bama might not need the third string 4* DB, but some other school might pay him like he's can't-miss

Have you seen WALL-E? It’s the future if the AI machines remain loyal servants.
If they don’t, then think I Robot or terminator…😳
Japan already has robots that help the elderly clean and keep up with daily chores (that country will be the absolute guinea pig for us all because they have wayyy too many non-working elderly vs working adults to not use technology).

To me that's the precipice. Roomba on steroids and for the elderly. Like the Jetsons' robot.

I would not be totally shocked it UT coaches made the decision of him not being at UT. Our coaches understand that when our guys are healthy we have more talent at DB than fans think. And they put lots of weight into culture fit. If he told our coaches he was coming and these trips have been something more than what was expected by our coaches... they very well could have said thanks but no thanks. Especially if he contacted us and said "you want to match the x- amount of $$$ that Ohio State just offered me."

I know this post will be followed up by the obligatory "there are high schools with a better secondary than UT" post by Weezer.

I agree that at some point our coaches may decide to just part ways and see what happens after spring.

Any time you return a guy like JJJ that has an impact everywhere it's going to make the team play better. Shoots 35.3% from deep, leads the team in FT % at 88.2% 4th in scoring and rebounding on the team I still find it annoying how many of our fans will talk the guy down as if he has no shot at playing in the NBA.

I'm still hoping at some point Phillips just starts dominating like he's shown he can. 25/8 against USC, 18/11 against Mississippi State, 15/6 against Vandy... he's got the ability just needs to figure out how to do it every night.

I love JJJ, and think he’s arguably the most important guy on the team. When he plays well, we win. When he doesn’t, we struggle. But, dude doesn’t look like an NBA player. He’s good at a lot of things, but not great at anything. Not sure what his calling card would be in the NBA. Also, think his knee is a serious concern that will limit his ability to play at a high level for much longer.

I disagree with your assessment of our secondary, but I wouldn't say there are high schools with a better secondary than UT. Our hope is that the freshmen can step up, because they'll need to.

Real talk...why was Davison Igbinosun spending his weekend at Ohio State? Some of these guys make me shake my head, even if you planned to go to Ohio State why wouldn't you want to be on campus for the atmosphere we had Saturday?!
Kid likes drama. If he comes here, I hope he works out.

IIRC, Skynet owns Roomba, that's not good

He’s not a bad kid or a cancer…..just a new NIL world we live in. We can’t say, “ kids should get paid,” and then complain when they fish for the biggest payout, but I freaking hate it…….never liked the NIL and still don’t, but it is what it is

Does anyone ever watch First things first with Wright, Wylds and Broussard? I swear the Patrick Mahomes stuff is getting ridiculous. It’s as if greats like Manning, Brady, Favre, Montana, Elway and Rodgers have never existed. Calling Mahomes the best to ever do it? Insane.
