Hell a lot of Vol football and bball fans also don’t know anything about those sports. And not just on SM. Ever visited a game thread? As soon as the opponent scores a TD it’s lights out for the season

I'll always remember 2019...

"We're 0-2!!! We'll be lucky to win 1 game this season and that'll be an FCS team!!" Ofc this was after losing a buzzer beater to a good BYU team. And then we went 8-5 lol.

So many fans are just foolish and don't get the ups and downs and variance inherent in sport.

They say silly things, "no way we can lose to X team, since we just beat Y team". That's not how this works. That's not how any of this works.

Last year….. we started out against a mediocre/bad Georgia southern team…. We didn’t play Texas until several games in and we scored 2 runs on 7 hits…. Last night against a comparable team to Texas we scored 1 run on 6 hits….. it’s way too early to know what kind of hitting team we have… With the philosophy that we teach…. I bet we end up as the top 2-3 power teams in the SEC this year.
Good point-- hard to figure how it's going to go after one game-- We just had a huge turnover over our massive hitters, so I was guessing it might be more about the pitching this year. That said, we havent even seen one of our best players in the lineup due to NCAA junk that seems to only happen to VOLS.

I'm actually a little surprised people are freaking out over one baseball loss.

First it's been silly how many overreactions there have been to basketball, but it's sad that they're doing this for baseball my god.
It's what happens when expectations get too high.

Reminds me of my golf game. For years after a great game of golf (for me breaking 40 on 9 holes), I would say "it's about time, I've got this figured out!" My expectations were through the roof. Then next time, when I played like crap, I would get depressed and angry with myself for playing so poorly. I just think it's human nature to react like that.

Now, after 30+ years of playing golf, I understand that performance in sports comes and goes, sometimes on a daily basis. So a bad shot or a bad round doesn't bother me nearly so much.

Two of our massive hitters had a combined 2 homeruns going into last season(Trey and Ortega) Baseball rosters are huge… I bet we have more guys ready to step up as well this year.

Yeah, but I don't think your Vandy or LSU baseball fans are freaking out after an early season loss because they know how college baseball works.

We ignnit

EXACTLY.

And you came to that realization from experiencing the variance firsthand in a sport.

My guess is many football fans that don't get that never played basketball or baseball or golf where the main determinant of the outcome isn't pure "want" or brute force as football is often more about. The difference between being 5-5 on 3 pointers for a game and 0-5 is an inch or two. And this is even magnified in a game like golf as you well know.
