I hope the national media continue the narrative of picking us to lose. I also want our fans to continue doubting the team. It is clearly motivating our guys, and we see a different team out there. Hell, somehow Kirby managed to convince his preseason #1 ranked football team was voted to be last in the SEC and were going to miss the playoffs (still don't know how he pulled that narrative off). The point is, I want our team to continue feeling like the underdog as this game has the highest chance of being the nut kicker we are all used to (hello South Carolina).

If that is what it takes to get them to play like they did Saturday…. Put on more steam….. keep the complaining going.

Bunch of sissy hacks, about to get run out of the gym by the friggin owls. We can’t guard in transition like we can in the half court. Tourney Rick will strike again.

Two really false narratives coming out of this weekend.

1. We play rugby. Uros was violent with KP a few times. The rest of the game was not violent, not really even that rough.

2. People doubted us so we played better. We had an amazing game shooting 3s (maybe best all year?) then one player carried us at the end by having the game of his life. You could argue he was motivated by the doubters I guess, but really I don't think we shoot 3s better just because we had doubters.

We had one of our best games of the year, and we needed it. We play like that the next 4 games and we win it all, but it's such a tired trope to act like the media doubt and people picking against us has anything to do with why we won. Barnes had a great game plan, and for some reason we hit a ton of 3s we don't usually hit. That's why we won.

So FAU played North Texas twice (the best PA/G defense in the country)

They won both games, but got held to 50 and 66 against North Texas. We're the 3rd best defense in the country in PA/G, but our offense is 188th and North Texas' was 336th. We're higher rated in FG % against and 3PT % against and we're a far better rebounding team.

Ultimately it will come down to us hitting shots and staying out of foul trouble, if we do that and keep them under 60 like we have everyone else in this tournament so far then I think we'll win.

I don't think FAU will respond very well to our physicality. Also, they've not faced a defense anywhere near ours that I'm aware of. I think our bench is deeper with better quality depth.

They are good, I just don't feel like they are on our level. I have a feeling we're starting to gel into an identity without ZZ and we should keep getting better.
I absolutely agree that they are not at our level all things being equal...but...our preternaturally bad shooting in random games makes us vulnerable to virtually anybody.

Somebody should do a case study on this team to see what is up with that...if you look at the numbers we are not a bad offense...but when it goes bad, it is team-wide and horrid...it has to be a mental thing with this group.

You should be allowed to post on basketball even though this is a Football Talk Thread. "Preternaturally bad shooting", Dude. Post on whatever you like.

The team had all the pressure in the first weekend, we got picked as the upset by most the national media. All the noise about Barnes not being able to get out of the early rounds. Then after a game where we nearly blew an 18 point lead we get Duke.

At this point the team got to the 2nd weekend, ZZ will travel with the team to MSG and be on the bench with them to help the guys stay fired up. I think with the size advantage we'll play like we did against Arkansas, didn't shoot many 3s and had a lot of action at the rim off cuts or drives. As a team in that game we shot 60.8% on 2 point shots. A game where Awaka went ham with rebounds and put backs because he was the biggest dog in the paint. ON also had a big game scoring and rebounding.

Phillips or Mashack might go off Thursday. Both can drive and both will have some size over their defender (especially Phillips).

Meanwhile, at the Alabama basketball facility....
