When it doesn’t touch or come from the front, the rule makes no sense to me.
Since I was an official years ago, I knew the top was still in, over was out, and that there was a “Larry Bird” rule. He made one in the NBA that they called off.
I looked into it more, and a site described it as this: think of the back of the backboard as a tunnel going straight back. If the ball goes anywhere in that imaginary tunnel, then it’s out because it is straight behind. If the angle is offset and over “the imaginary tunnel,” then it can still be good. It’s kind of a subjective call.
It’s not hard unless you make it hard.
Is that the full extent of it? I saw quotes from Saban advocating that the officials should not set the ball immediately on first downs and the defense be permitted to substitute. That Saban proposal was specifically aimed at us. It's a big part of our offense and everyone who wrote about it (except some dishonest Bama sites) specifically noted that it is specifically intended to hurt Tennessee. You know, the team that dropped 52 on Saban. @SweetasSodaClock doesn’t stop after first downs except last 2 minutes of either half. Not a big deal.
