More defense –
I looked at the difference between where FBS teams in 2022 ranked for total defense (yards/game) vs where they ranked for scoring defense (points/game). We ranked #92 in total defense and #36 in scoring defense. That’s a difference of plus 56 places for our scoring defense which was the largest differential in all of FBS in 2022.
Translation: We had the #1 bend, don’t break defense in the entire country in 2022.
A couple other perceived talent limited teams familiar to us that were thought to have a good defense in 2022 were Missouri and Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh’s defense (total defense) was ranked #23 in the nation but their scoring defense was ranked behind us at #51, minus 28 spaces vs their total defense. Missouri got accolades for their defensive improvement in 2022 (and considering what they had in 2021 maybe some of that was warranted). Their total defense ended up ranked #34 but their scoring defense came in at #56, also behind us and minus 22 spaces vs their total defense. The worst FBS performer was Greg Schiano at Rutgers. His total defense was 38th best in the nation; his scoring defense was 95th, minus 57 spaces. You hate to see it. lol
Coach BJ-M said in his media appearance this past week that our LB group was working on pass coverage so that we could help out more with the underneath stuff when we’re in zone coverage. He said Arion Carter and Elijah Herring were tied for most interceptions in the group thus far in spring practice. Adam Sparks (KNS) is covering spring practice and this week he said he thinks Carter has a chance to start this year and if not at least be one of the first in for rotation. I’ve heard others express a similar first impression regarding Carter. CBJ-M was pretty high on Carter but obviously noted he’s still learning the defense. I’m not worried about that. He was recruited by Yale. I think the odds are good he could be ready in plenty of time for Virginia. jmo.

Prayers and praises this morning. My inlaws were in their home last night when a tornado ripped through the wide spot in the road known as Readyville, TN. How they are alive is purely a miracle and the grace of God? They called me at 2 am to let us know they were ok but their home is destroyed. I hope everyone else is safe as well. Possessions may be gone but family being safe brings joy to the morning.

Schiano is trying out the revolutionary bend some but break a lot defense. Not sure that's going to work out well for him.More defense –

Seriously. So she cancels a series over a situation between duke and byu where security had to be on duke's bench. Duke team stands by it. BYU officials review audio (oh that'll help at a volleyball game)...says they didn't hear it. Duke stands by it and so does USCjr. Ok fine. This is absolutely terrible. The person who tweeted it should be ashamed.
Praise God they are ok. That was a devastating event.Prayers and praises this morning.
