This has always been my argument as a professor against other academics who think athletics bring no value to the university. Like it or not, a huge selling point of college is having fun. Good sports teams are more fun. It isn’t all about education and if it were they’d teach more classes anyway instead of shoveling all of that onto adjuncts so that the tenured folks can write articles 3 people will ever read.
I swear my almost 2 year old is going to develop an Australian accent with the amount of Bluey we watch![]()
It’s been used since the 90’s to describe a college only offense. That means it is more of a system than actual talent…. Sort of how the old Houston Cougars ran their offense.Gimmick implies it's not sustainable, it relies on trick plays. Exploiting weaknesses in the defense and coverages isn't gimmicky, that's literally the definition of good offense. It's not trickery like a statue of liberty play or a flea flicker, it's just well-executed exploitation of whatever deficiencies the defense has.
I saw 3 interceptions in '21 and thought it may be a fluke. . . thought he would still have a great year in '23, but throw about 7-8. Never crossed my mind he would throw fewer. Crazy.Psh only 5 INTs in 2 seasons. What a gimmick. Real football QBs can throw that in a single game.
But fr that is COMPLETELY INSANE. What we just witnessed the past 2 years with HH may not be fully be grasped until we have 10 or 15 years of separation.

I don't think that's a universally agreed upon definition of gimmick. System offense or college only offense I hear all the time, gimmicky I only ever hear in reference to hoaky flash in the pan offenses that involve trickery more than skill. It’s been used since the 90’s to describe a college only offense. That means it is more of a system than actual talent…. Sort of how the old Houston Cougars ran their offense.
Bama fans are heathens anyway, no saving em.Was the most beautiful gallop I've ever seen. I was a young'en but it's forever etched in memory.
I'll also never forget our Sunday School the next day was literally eating snacks and watching the game highlights. Bama fans need not apply at Cedar Springs Presbyterian![]()
I think it's less about racial biases and more about familiarity biases. White owners hire their friends or members of their circles, who are majority white. Those friends hire their friends, also majority white. People hire who they know by default, and people grow up and hang out with people of similar skin color in our culture. It's not malicious or even subconscious bias against other skin colors, you just tend to hire people you know best.I'll just add my own experiential memory to the NFL discussion, not that anecdotes mean much, just how it opened my view up.
I once worked for a company in Knoxville that had roughly 200 employees doing the same job more or less. I'd say 95% of them were white.
Then there were maybe 12-14 supervisors. Half were white and half were black.
Then there were 5 managers. 1 was white and the other 4 black.
The HR manager was also black.
Clearly, not saying explicit racism was occurring, but it made one wonder about the implicit biases or maybe just prior connections. And even those thoughts could have been completely wrong and wrongly skeptical.
All to say this - I can at least grasp how many in the NFL view it when they see mostly white owners giving jobs to mostly white folks, in a largely minority league.
Just an experience and a view.
Maybe try a drug store next time?Always tell story of being in CT. Going to a Target, on second level of a garage. Clothes lay everywhere, apathetic clerks on cell phones - no restocking - pointing to one wad of bags at checkout (which you have to pay for).
Simply needing heartburn medication, and to purchase oatmeal. Most every item is kept under lock & key. One person, a human gazelle, had the key. Mr Social, was having conversations with anyone who'd listen.
Couldnt do it.

If he has a great OL. He’s a little guy. If he’s getting chased and killed by NFL defenses, then he will have a very short career.
Look at Tua…
Meh 7 inning no hitter.WTF???
Did anyone see this??? Holy Smokes!
