What do some of yall think about this

So I love watching stuff about college football history

Been watching this doc about Oklahoma history. So many dominant teams. Crazy amount of conference titles etc.

One thing I noticed though, was how freaking easy their schedule has been for the majority of their history.

For decades they got to play horrible teams like Kansas, K-State, Mizzou, and Iowa St

Then Colorado was up and down

But its almost like they had five vabderbilts on their schedule every year

Same goes for Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State. Like other than playing each other...nobody else comes remotely close to them in the big ten in history.

Even though perceptually the SEC wasn't as strong back in the day it just has always been more competitive

Don't think these programs would have such illustrious histories if it weren't for having at least 8 gimme wins on their schedule every year.

Wow I had not heard of him which is crazy seeing as that genre is so in my wheelhouse. I will remedy that post haste.
He was from my hometown. My granny graduated high school with him.

I'd start with his book, Twilight, or maybe The Long Home or Little Sister Death.

You mentioned Franco earlier, doing Child Of God...him and Tim Blake Nelson made The Long Home into a movie, but it's never been released.

I just ordered The Long Home, Twilight and Provinces of Night. Look great thanks for the rec!

Last Exit to Brooklynn is so good. I still think about that book and I read it 25 years ago.
Yeah, it's been about 20 years for me, too. It probably would speak totally different to us today, us being older.

But, yeah...Selby, a man who has a strong claim to be on the literary Rushmore. The Willow Tree, The Room, The Demon...those books...🫠🤯

That's a great point, and why with art (books, music, movie) I rarely use the word "best" and simply say "favorite."

Because often for me the first love is real, The Road was also my first book by Cormac. I'm going to start Blood Meridian though this week :)
It's intense. Verbal pyrotechnics. And not without moments of comedy. The revival scene with the sequel at the bar (which is near the beginning) I still laugh about. The protagonist has no name 😂, known only as "the kid." I think that book will last as a classic.

One of those that made me want to write. Truly inspiring.
I should add that wifey has impeccable taste, so I am not slighting her recommendation in taking yours. My reason for delay has been that we are reading all of Faulkner together at her request. So there's a queue.

Downtown one is my place. Apparently used have be weird shower parties in the men's locker room decades ago...

Now it's seemingly normal. Almost too normal. Mostly lots of retirees. And pickleball. Oh those damn pickleballers!
Yeah was a downtowner. Def a strange place. But was home for a bit.

Have you seen the movie Nobody? Odenkirk is awesome in it. It’s hilarious imo.
I have watched it several times and I still laugh. Dark humor, but very well made.
Reminded me of R.E.D. With Bruce Willis. One of my favorite movies.

Joe Matheson : Sarah, this is Victoria. Best wet work asset in the business. And a true artist with an RPN.

Sarah Ross : What? What's that?

Victoria : I kill people, dear.

Have you read The Heart is a Lonely Hunter by Carson McCullers? Same vein, very very very good stuff.
One of my all time favorites. She was like 20 years old when she wrote it!

You ever got into Tom Robbins (Another Roadside Attraction, or Even Cowgirls Get The Blues, or Wild Ducks Flying Backwards)...or, completely changing gears, James Ellroy? I'm looking at my book shelf right now, just throwing some of my favorites out there.
