In some instances I wish we'd have invaded Japan. I may not be sitting here but, total submission would have been perfect for them.
I am not sure how much more they could have surrendered than unconditionally. Emperor Hirohito signed the Potsdam Declaration personally as a sign of good faith.

The invasion would be very different than D-Day, with dozens of possible invasion routes into France. Japan only has two beaches suitable for an amphibious invasion, Kyushu Island, the southernmost island of Japan itself, and the Kanto Plain on either side of Tokyo. The Japanese could completely defend both possible landing spots.

Operation Olympic would have been one of the great military mistakes in history. Our intelligence said there were 300,000 troops in Kyushu, where the invasion of Japan would begin. There were in fact almost 1,000,000 troops on that island. It would have been an American bloodbath at least equal to the Civil War, except taking place over weeks, instead of years.

I believe the invasion of Japan would have been a great drag on our postwar economic recovery and our ablity to lead the West in the Cold War years, both in workers and wealth lost. The Japanese might have also been a hostile occupied population. Also, the Soviets would have had months with our military pre-occupied to invade both China and Korea to defeat those Japanese divisions still engaged, thus directly controlling much more territory and populations for their postwar powerbase.

Not to mention the Invasion of Japan demanded our European Army be sent to Japan by ship, and the morale of the American divisions in Europe was very low when the troops learned their war was not over. They had a second one to fight. The troops in the European Theater felt they had won their war, and it was the job of forces in the Pacific to defeat Japan.

The Soviets in Europe would not have to contend with our army at their door during their first moves establishing (and maybe expanding, if our entire army is on the other side of the world) their sphere of influence and maybe expanding into Western Europe.

considering what it took to take a small pacific island i tend to agree.

Why does people hold tight to a false belief that you can only like PGA or LIV. It’s just silly. I like them both
Why do people create excluded middles as though there are only two options? Maybe some people dislike LIV because of things that it is as opposed to the thing that it isn't?

For me, it's not a false belief. I haven't missed a single player that left the PGA Tour for the LIV. In fact, I'm quite pleased that they're no longer shown on the PGA Tour on a weekly basis. I haven't watched a single second of LIV coverage, and I never will.

Please say a prayer for our 1 year old son Parker. Day 5 of very high fevers (104+) and lethargy and at the ER again for the 2nd time in 3 days. Doing CBC test, catheter to rule out UTI and some different viral panel swabs. There is nothing worse in this world than seeing your little man in pain. Just want him 100% and some peace of mind.IMG_4955.jpegIMG_4931.jpeg
