Good Lord, you guys had to get him started on the creepy JG $hit. I truly have never seen one grown man obsessed with a college QB. I thought I had seen the last of this once he finally left. JG's issue was a bad under 2:1 TD/ Int rate and folding under pressure. Please for the love of God let JG go. He's a grown man now!
At UT his td/int ratio was actually 2.24.

Ainge - 2.06

Clausen - 2.42

Tee - 2.0

Give these schools our schedule and see how they vote . We play what is basically 3 of the top 5 teams the past decade and almost always the hottest team out of the west. Guess things could change next year.
This is a narrative being pushed by fans and click bait media. It's perfect for social media.

The reality is if they wanted 9 we'd have 9. Also a reality... There's 2 more marquis programs joining the league, so the conf game schedule goes from 112 games to 128. Adding a 9th game goes to 144.

On a per game basis the value per game on the tv contract probably came up. I'd bet this is a reason Sankey didn't push harder. Plus ina9 game schedule, you lose a home game every other year. Teams that play neutral site games in Jacksonville, Dallas and Dallas don't. And shocker, the participants in those games were the ones that weren't opposed to a nine game schedule...😏

There's actual legit reasons to be against 9.

I'm against it because it's bad for the overall health of the national and multi-divisional game of college football. You're just funneling all of the money up and up to the few. And the smaller programs will die off.

And how...between now and let's say ~1980 when the tv contracts blew up...has the game been improved by all this money? It's essentially all gone to coaches, ADs, and commissioners. The average fan continues to pay more and they don't pay cash to players minus the small COL stipend.

It's all for nothing, but the top guys profiting off it can't get enough.

I don’t care about 8 vs 9 games. I am glad we are getting rid of divisions. I get the reasons to keep them, but I think it’s better for the league to get rid of them. Gets the top 2 teams from the league to play, and not end up like it did last year with the 2nd best team in the league not getting to play in the championship because of divisions.

Which is one of the reasons we didn't go to 9. Money left on the table isn't how Sankey is wired...

Eh... That can work against you too.

Iirc, if no divisions, we likely play Florida in 95, 96, 98, 01 for the sec. Rematches can but you in the butt.

But, I do like the idea of the 2 best teams playing. So it is what it is.

8 game schedule probably benefits Tennessee. Not having Bama every year would suck because they will fall down to earth eventually when little fella leaves. Although only permanent being Vanderbilt is a benefit. You get rid of divisions (huge win) play everyone every 2 years. Georgia plays LSU, Aggies and Bama more often. All in all not terrible

If the reports are right Tennessee was on the fence about it and then ultimately sided with 8 game model. Not terrible. Just wished we had that Bama game every year because that will go away if they stick with it past 2024

It's all about money in the end. They don't want to give ESPN an extra conference game for free. If/when ESPN agrees to add a lot more money to the TV contract, we'll probably see a 9-game conference schedule.

Casey at the Bat first appears in the "San Francisco Examiner"

Casey at the Bat
by Ernest Lawrence Thayer ©
Published: The Examiner (06-03-1888)

The Outlook wasn't brilliant for the Mudville nine that day:
The score stood four to two, with but one inning more to play.
And then when Cooney died at first, and Barrows did the same,
A sickly silence fell upon the patrons of the game.

A straggling few got up to go in deep despair. The rest
Clung to that hope which springs eternal in the human breast;
They thought, if only Casey could get but a whack at that -
We'd put up even money, now, with Casey at the bat.
But Flynn preceded Casey, as did also Jimmy Blake,
And the former was a lulu and the latter was a cake;
So upon that stricken multitude grim melancholy sat,
For there seemed but little chance of Casey's getting to the bat.
But Flynn let drive a single, to the wonderment of all,
And Blake, the much despis-ed, tore the cover off the ball;
And when the dust had lifted, and the men saw what had occurred,
There was Johnnie safe at second and Flynn a-hugging third.
Then from 5,000 throats and more there rose a lusty yell;
It rumbled through the valley, it rattled in the dell;
It knocked upon the mountain and recoiled upon the flat,
For Casey, mighty Casey, was advancing to the bat.
There was ease in Casey's manner as he stepped into his place;
There was pride in Casey's bearing and a smile on Casey's face.
And when, responding to the cheers, he lightly doffed his hat,
No stranger in the crowd could doubt 'twas Casey at the bat.
Ten thousand eyes were on him as he rubbed his hands with dirt;
Five thousand tongues applauded when he wiped them on his shirt.
Then while the writhing pitcher ground the ball into his hip,
Defiance gleamed in Casey's eye, a sneer curled Casey's lip.
And now the leather-covered sphere came hurtling through the air,
And Casey stood a-watching it in haughty grandeur there.
Close by the sturdy batsman the ball unheeded sped-
"That ain't my style," said Casey. "Strike one," the umpire said.
From the benches, black with people, there went up a muffled roar,
Like the beating of the storm-waves on a stern and distant shore.
"Kill him! Kill the umpire!" shouted someone on the stand;
And its likely they'd a-killed him had not Casey raised his hand.
With a smile of Christian charity great Casey's visage shone;
He stilled the rising tumult; he bade the game go on;
He signaled to the pitcher, and once more the spheroid flew;
But Casey still ignored it, and the umpire said, "Strike two."
"Fraud!" cried the maddened thousands, and echo answered fraud;
But one scornful look from Casey and the audience was awed.
They saw his face grow stern and cold, they saw his muscles strain,
And they knew that Casey wouldn't let that ball go by again.
The sneer is gone from Casey's lip, his teeth are clenched in hate;
He pounds with cruel violence his bat upon the plate.
And now the pitcher holds the ball, and now he lets it go,
And now the air is shattered by the force of Casey's blow.
Oh, somewhere in this favored land the sun is shining bright;
The band is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light,
And somewhere men are laughing, and somewhere children shout;
But there is no joy in Mudville - mighty Casey has struck out.
Epic. Thanks for sharing. Isn't Clemson also known as Mudville?
