I have no idea why anyone would want to see Barbie or what on Earth made Gosling want to do the film. (I've heard it's somewhat subversive but I haven't looked into it all that much). Oppenheimer, otoh, looks great and I have a personal connection to it so that would be my choice. I'm also curious to see what all Oppenheimer goes into because there's more to it that "I am become death, destroyer of worlds" which most Americans probably don't know is actually a quote from the Bhagavad Gita.
The director has done some dang good movies and yes it's supposed to be socially critical, not quite a childrens' film, though not the anti either.

Hindu texts are pretty wild. Remember reading some in college along with Buddhist in a comparative religion class. Pretty much set the stage for all other modern mytholgies and religions, having predated all but oral traditions. Indian and Chinese history is not taught enough in the West. There really is so much great ancient history in the Eastern hemisphere. Though the more modern Golden Hoarde has always taken the cake for me.

My grandmother worked on the bomb. Twas a joke.
So did both of my grandparents. Not in alamos, but in Oak Ridge...so they didn't really know what they were working on.

Grandmother was a local and worked as one of the switchboard girls.

Grandfather took a break from NYU to work there in both engineering and finance apparently, before heading back to graduate, then immediately moving back to Oak Ridge national lab for a 50 year career there. Tbh he never really told any of us what he did there. It was...and always will be, pretty top secret.

I think the Lead off was Otis Nixon-- He was fast but not really a whole lot of great hitters-- We had Justice, Pendleton -- McGriff at one time, Gant, Klesko. All these weren't at the same time, either. They truly depended on those starting pitchers. Even the bull pen was blah. Remember Wohlers losing his mind and couldn't throw anymore? Throwing it 10 feet over everyone's head?
Same story with Rocker.

I think most people who know the quote know what it's from, maybe not by name, but definitely that it's Vishnu from a Hindu text.

4th and 5th in the rotation were never shabby either. Sometimes a shaky bullpen was the culprit, but I think there wasn't enough counterbalance from the batting side. We had some hosses like McGriff, but top to bottom it was nothing resembling a murderer's row.
Don't forget the Braves had Javy Lopez he was a good catcher and hitter!!

Heupel’s clock management was noticeably better in 2022 than it was in 2021. Was impressed with it all. Only eh clock management game last year was the Florida game but every coach has a clock management moment like that during a season. 2021 wasn’t terrible but it was definitely shaky at times. Great improvement that doesn’t get talked about enough in a Head Coach. It’s usually Development Vs Recruiting bs. Folks forget you manage a game as well on gamedays

I think you're over estimating the average American's knowledge of world religions and philosophy. Religious studies, comparative religions, world religions etc. is avoided like the plague in public schools and when it is taught tends to focus on the Abrahamic religions because they're most familiar to us. It's more likely among the college educated but most of the nation isn't college educated and you can still go through college and even get an advanced degree without ever having to take a comparative religion course or even a history class that focuses on the East rather than the West. To recognize a quote from a Hindu text would be rare knowledge indeed although if the movie is accurate it will soon be common knowledge.

I doubt anyone recognizes the quote from study of Hindu. But anyone who has studied history enough to know Oppenheimer said that would probably have researched why. I had no idea where that quote came from the first time I heard Oppenheimer said it, but I promptly figured it out.

I've seen videos where Americans couldn't point out a single country on a globe (yes, including the US itself on a globe). Then throw in the polls asking folks basic global questions 😒 Our sense outside our own bubble is pretty sad.

I was there. Not seen anything like it. Had just gotten to our seats with my lsu buddy and he was one bite into his hotdog, hadn’t even washed it down yet, when we recovered the fumbled kickoff. And it never got loud. Crazy. I’d only ever heard it was one of the loudest stadiums, and until we got in there I was convinced it would be, even during the day.
There really is such a thing as taking a crowd out of game. That game would be the textbook example.

Tough choice. Oppenheimer helped give us the most horrfying weaponry known to man. Barbie eventually led us to the Kardashians. I can't decide which is more destructive.
We're prolly going to both, what the h. Just because. But my hopes and enthusiasm are pegged on the Napoleon movie coming out at Thanksgiving. I said this before, but The Making of the Atomic Bomb is a truly great history. I would read it before.

IMO, the end of the Purdue game was more about our offense than clock management. We threw a couple of deep ones to Tillman that went incomplete. The QB’s are taught to do that. I believe there was also one where there is a picture of the Purdue DB behind Tillman pulling jersey, which wasn’t called.

I will say this about Joaquin Phoenix, I've never seen him take on a character like that and not nail it. He was absolutely perfect in Gladiator and he'll be perfect in Napoleon as well. If the script is strong Napoleon will be a great movie, imo. I'll have to look into the book. OH hid my Kindle in one of his confusion spells and the dang thing is so small I haven't yet found it. lol.

I do love how the Pals employee believes escalating something to his/her own CEO is the strongest of threats. I love corporate America sycophants who worship their CEO and can't imagine anything worse than his disapproval.

You are projecting a lot onto that post.
