OT, RB, and DL are trending away.

Makes me sick to see other teams, like Wisconsin tied with us.

But we still got almost 6 months to go.
I was talking with a P5 coach, he said teams like UT with organization like Spyre will clean up in portal. He told me of one P5 team that is shifting entire recruiting strategy to buying players through portal. He believes that HS signing will become less important in the next few years for bigger schools. They will have their choice of portal players

They will manage their way through this without repercussions on the field. Thats all we could ask. Think about the extensive penalties they had already self imposed and Heup got them to 11-2 with an Orange Bowl domination of Clemson.

Having a fired head football coach become your AD with no experience was not such a good idea, maybe?

It could have been much, much worse.

Time to move on. It's nearly football time in Tennessee.

I’m not as happy as I should be about this, because I know what the NCAA told us we would get when we wrapped up our investigation.

But, if you had told me when we fired Pruitt that we would be coming off an 11-2 season in just two years and basically have nominal penalties imposed for a few more seasons, I would have told you that you were absolutely delusional.

This would be correct. Being in the lead with NIL helps us. You still sign the HS guys for the core, you then go to the portal to fill in the roster holes as well as buying the difference makers as available. Voltello is already showing the way. Heup knows what to do.

We write a check and move on. This becomes an administrative issue (at worst) that we'll push under the rug. No bowl ban and a minor loss of recruiting makes this a nuisance for a relatively brief period. Current recruits won't care and future recruits won't even know about or remember it. In 5 years, it'll quietly go away.

This is a big win for UT's leadership. Well done.

Yes, baseball is ahead of football right now

This makes a lot of sense for coaches like Heupel and Barnes. They'll go get an established commodity for a year or two when they miss on the big fish prospects instead of going for prospects who aren't passionate about coming to UT. I think we are seeing this more and more with the football prospects Heupel is targeting and those they seemingly 'let go' or don't get into the bidding war for, if that narrative is true.

Look again at the recruiting restrictions
Tennessee already self imposed losses of 16 scholarships over the last TWO seasons… NCAA credited Tennessee for those 16 so we just deal with 12 over the next 5 years total bringing it to 28. I’ll take loss of 2 scholarships per season just about. Already been winning NY6 bowls with losses of 8 per year on average so bring it

Main point of mine here is Tennessee escaped while Pruitt rightfully was hammered

I am fuzzy on the yearly roster math and how that works
Almost like they should do it in player years..hence 5 scholarships would be 20 player years

No, we are only losing 2 scholarships per year for 5 years on the 85 number. This isn't a signing limit. It's literally 10 total scholarship years.

Uninformed fans of other teams will be celebrating today, believing UT is going to be hammered.

Yes they will

However those rivals teams coaching staffs are prob upset bc they know the details unlike their fans. Can’t really use that against us anymore when it’s behind us. A good day all In all.

That’s why I think all this time building relationships with guys who end up at other schools is still critical.
It will be interesting to watch the “just-missed” players who come back around in a few years.

Recruit like normal and find an NIL deal or two for those couple players that covers school 😂
If Ledlum ends up at St. John's, and they don't cut someone from the team, then that's exactly what St. John's is doing. All you'd have to do is quietly move a graduate Sr. or an existing player to a 'walk-on' status for a period of time and you can have your 85 or even more with little to no issue.

Could have gone a little better, but also could have gone a lot worse.

Less Scholarships? No biggie. NIL can help with that. Less visits and communication? Tack them onto the beginning/end of the dead periods and and use less visits on weekends where it’s traditionally less anyways, less impact felt. Vacated wins? Lol, okay, take them.

The fines suck, but we all know Danny the king White will have a plan and overall the Athletic Department is as healthy as it’s been in a long time and will continue to be as long as he’s here.

Great job by the administration in getting this into the rear view and we can move on with little impact on the field. Huge to have this behind us.

VQ guys are online now and AP said there were many kids who would have come to UT a couple of years ago, but they bought what they were being told that UT would have a bowl ban.

Who knows, there might be a couple of those type players come back to UT in the next year or two because they didn't burn bridges.

My guess is this has been harder on recruiting than even VQ wants to admit.

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Schlabaugh and others were talking in the media about UT getting hammered once we reasserted ourselves as a threat.

makes sense because you know what youre getting for your $. seems like most of these kids are basically striving us along to the hughest bid. That isnt self sustaining.
