VQ guys are online now and AP said there were many kids who would have come to UT a couple of years ago, but they bought what they were being told that UT would have a bowl ban.

Who knows, there might be a couple of those type players come back to UT in the next year or two because they didn't burn bridges.
We already did this with Walker who is one of our top returning DBs. Not hard to imagine a few others if we continue to produce on the field

VQ has an article up with the full NCAA report. When you read the report, it really shines a light on just how silly all of this is in the grand scheme of things. We got in trouble for paying one prospect’s mother’s car payment, one prospect’s $10,000 family medical bill across two $5,000 payments, and for paying for hotels and meals on unofficial visits.

Even pre-NIL, the hotels and meals thing is just funny. It’s like the lowest form of bad behavior.

Could almost pass it off as being charitable and doing the right thing in helping others. Just silly

Hotel and meals were during Covid (2020). Teams were not allowed to have OV during that time, but we were treating UOV like an OV.

Just for reference, here are our scholarship number totals over the last 11 teams. They aren't exact because I don't always know the scholarship status of players.

P5 schools will form their own league in a few years and break away from the NCAA. There is no reason to pay an $8 million fine. I'll give the NCAA 10 scholarships or whatever the number is. The administration did everything for AA and still got hit.
I'm glad this is behind us now. Now let's go win some games and recruiting will take care if it's self.

I’m not as happy as I should be about this, because I know what the NCAA told us we would get when we wrapped up our investigation.

But, if you had told me when we fired Pruitt that we would be coming off an 11-2 season in just two years and basically have nominal penalties imposed for a few more seasons, I would have told you that you were absolutely delusional.

Totally. UT has made a remarkable rebound. The NCAA cannot be trusted. Both are true.

As part of the five-year NCAAA probation, UT must:
  • Pay fine, including $8 million, 50% of gross revenue paid to SEC for UT's participation in the 2020 TaxSlayer Gator Bowl under Pruitt, $5,000 plus 3% of football budget
  • Vacate all wins and individual records in any game in which 16 individual sanctioned players participated. Those games will announced later.
  • Cut 28 scholarships from its roster over five years. UT had already self-imposed 16 scholarships over the past two seasons.
  • Cease communication with recruits for 28 weeks spread over five years.
  • End unofficial visits by recruits for 40 weeks over five years.
  • Cut 36 official visits by recruits over five years.
  • Cut 120 evaluation days over five years.
Screw, the NCAA, wanting to vacate wins! Why are the sanctioned players not getting any penalties, when they knew it was illegal to take money? Instead, almost all of the penalties affect our current staff and players, who are not even involved in any of it! That is what ticks me off about all of this.

Rival coaches punching the air right now that they'll no longer be able to lie to impressionable recruits about how bad we were going to get hammered.

Great day for UT and outstanding leadership from the top down navigating us through this. Future looks brighter than ever

fine with paying them to go away

given how unpredictable they are, I think we did just fine

happy to move on, ready to read all the other fans whining on other message boards

Happy Friday morans!
Couldn't agree more. Further proof they are a bad organization grabbing for money like that, but glad they're going away without harming our program or recruiting.

Edit never mind, they hammered us in recruiting.

Hyams was on this morning and made it sound like that's the reason for it not being done. He made it sound like it was still going back and forth.
Maybe @LA Vol can shed some light.

Not sure what Hyams said...but much of the going back and forth was "Wait, we discussed this... now you're saying WHAT!" NCAA bait and switched UT throughout. Could've been more. Should've been less.
