But, since I opened up and starting posting I had a question for the recruiting gurus here. My son is a sophomore and this past season he took over the starting QB job for his high school half way through the season. His team is not very good, a bunch of beach boys playing against some tough squads in Eastern North Carolina, but he settled in and made some plays for his squad. My question is: being from a school that is definitely not a football power how can he get noticed and in front of coaches if he did want to play in college? What steps should we be doing as a sophomore to give him exposure and make sure he is prepared to play at the next level? Any advice or info would be appreciated...
I am including his huddle highlights in case anyone is interested in checking them out.

Try to get to as many camps as you can and play some 7 on 7s in different areas. The next 3 summers would be packed full of doing that, QBs just have to get in front of coaches. So any camp on campus is big, any 7 on 7 that's hosted on campus is also big. Also be proactive, every college in the country has a recruiting office. Take his highlights and make sure they are as up to date as possible, type out a letter and send the highlights (on a DVD if possible) with the letter to each school he's got serious interest in. In the letter he should introduce himself, with some measurables (his height/weight specifically) and some stats (typical stuff you see on Hudl profiles) and then tell him to explain why he's interested in attending the school in question and also have him ask the coaches for feedback on things he could work on that they see in his film.
The letters will obviously need to be written for each school individually, but it's a good way to open up the communication. Don't get discouraged either if you get no feedback and I'd say try to have a mix of schools at every level he's interested (even JuCo). You never know who will see the tape and where they might end up by the time he graduates.
Build a relationship with a QB coach at the G5 level and in 2 years they could be at a P5 job and your son may have made enough of an impression to be someone they wanna bring with. Or could be a JuCo coach that becomes an OC/QB coach at a G5 school and he remembers your kid. So don't think you should ONLY send film to Power 5 schools and only attend camps there.
Ultimately if it's a camp at a school of interest that the actual coaches are hosting then that's the one to go to.
