Osita Ekwonu from ND, Teradja Mitchell from Ohio State, Antoine Sampah from LSU, Amari Gainer from FSU are also in the portal and were high rated guys.

Pretty sure AP said we could be in play for Jeremiah Jean-Baptiste as well, he's from UCF. He's got good size and produced while at UCF.

Thanks that's really good to hear! If we can get one or two and one or two DB's along with a WR we should be on our way...

I’m really glad they are concerned about fit. At the same time I am afraid fans are just going to look at who’s highly ranked and be disappointed when we don’t go after the higher ranked ones.

There's so much to balance, and getting the right fit and the right mix of experience and talent is important. We may not be familiar with some of the guys the coaches are focusing on, but these are players they think will fit seamlessly into the system and culture they've created. Some of the big names come with big demands, and many are looking to get more or go elsewhere. For every competitive portal prospect, there are dozens who were nudged out of programs for a reason-- much like ours were-- and will move down or out of football. The coaches also have to keep current players engaged until they feel they can afford to lose them. Maybe they'll develop; maybe they won't.

Fans hear a ticking clock; coaches see five more months to evaluate what they have and make changes to create the best team they can. We'll continue to lose guys as the staff upgrades the roster whenever and wherever they think they can.

Same here. Dad passed in January this year so coming up on one year anniversary. Last year I asked dad if he wanted to drive around and look at lights. He said he didn't think he could do it. He said to wait for my brother to be in town and he would try. We decided to do it a couple of days after Christmas. I asked him how we were going to get everyone in a car, said we'd have to take several cars. Dad said we could take the motorhome (he and I went together and bought one). That way he could plug his O² machine in. Then he asked if I could decorate it up with Christmas lights, on the outside. I told him I'd make it happen. So I spent the Saturday after Christmas securing lights to the motorhome. He wanted Christmas music to be blasting on the outside as well but I couldn't make that happen. So all 15 of us drove around looking at lights. He had a blast that night. Really a great memory. I have a video but I don't think I can post it.

That's a beautiful final memory to cherish, thank you for sharing. 🧡

I had plans to take dad and my son to the Arizona game last year. Dad didn't want to go so we didn't go. Never got to see any TN games with him and that was going to be the big one, of course I didn't know how bad off he was at the time and he hid it well. Wish we had gotten that experience together.

Sorry to hear that...one of the hardest things that hit me after my dad passed was not having anything with his voice. No old voicemails and for some reason his old VM greeting had been changed so even calling his number it wasn't there. That was hard for me, finally found some old videos where I could hear him again. But it was rough. His last few weeks with us he wasn't himself, cancer is hell and it took everything away from him before he was finally gone.

I’m glad you at least have those videos.

I only have a few VMs from my dad, but that was mostly because I dropped everything to talk when he called. Very rarely missed a call from him.

He “butt dialed” me about a year before he died and unknowingly left a several minutes long VM, and I paid no attention to it at the time. But it’s a prized possession now. It’s him talking to a random stranger about his life, and he’s in full boisterous, embellished story telling mode, which he was renowned for in my family. It perfectly captures his voice and personality because it’s totally candid and he had no idea he was leaving it on my VM.

that's sooooo weak :/

I mean no offense Trippie...but if you don't want to start a freshmen MLB then we're rolling dice on a portal guy.

I'd rather see Perry and Herring getting more reps personally. We've got 4 of our secondary guys all from the portal and every season we've though they were going to help us in the secondary and so far it's not happened. So as nice as the big names are in the portal it's hard to be super excited by anyone when we've yet to really have a difference maker on defense come from there.

The bulk of our good defensive players and major contributors the last two seasons have all been developed guys we signed from HS or JuCo, haven't "hit" yet on a portal transfer really.

Weren’t we talking with the Stanford LB too? I may be misremembering.

My Dad passed away on Christmas morning several years ago. We were all standing around his hospital bed in sadness and shock when an old nurse came in. You could tell she was working for some younger nurse so they could be with their families that morning and said something that was beyond anything I expected yet so simple but so powerful. She simply said in a matter of fact way " What better place to spend Christmas than in Heaven". What else could be said ? It really put things in perspective for me. Angels are out there and they do show up when you need them.

Remember: The World is Very loud and God speaks softly.

More Veer and Shoot offenses are headed to the SEC. Arkansas, Ole Miss, Oklahoma, and Tennessee already run it. Auburn hired Phillip Montgomery as OC who ran the veer and shoot as OC at Baylor and as HC at Tulsa. South Carolina is hiring Dowell Loggains who learned the system under Kendall Briles at Arkansas. 6/16 SEC teams (including OU and Texas expansion) will run the Briles offense next year.

Actually my b, my b! From the group we have, I do actually like Herring a ton. I just want an elite transfer at LB and the secondary. That's really all.

I've been frustrated because of the reports of who we are targeting. Like we don't need WR's or DL, two positions im not worried about

Which ones have shown they are SEC linebackers other than Banks?

Beasley has flashes but is lost in pass pro.
Garland - always injured
Mitchell- waste of space
Perry - hasn’t played
Herring - barely played, looks like a LB
Hannah- never will play ever

We need help in a big way. The two freshmen linebackers committed are great prospects and Carter would be amazing, but you can’t rely on them in year one.

Okay, and who have we landed from the portal on defense has shown they are SEC level? Gotta develop and build guys portal shopping every off-season hasn't worked for us.

Beasley leads the team in total tackles and was 2nd behind Young in TFL. If anything I think trying to rotate ILB and play Mitchell/Page more hurt us. Herring played in all 12 games and was tied for 4th on the team in sacks. Perry also played in all 12 games and had 14 total tackles.

Hannah is likely a special teams only guy, but still need those bodies too. I think Herring/Perry getting as much playing time as they did this season will matter next year. I think we'll likely see Beasley/Mitchell starting with Herring and/or Perry in the 2 deep. Ideally though we'd add a 5th guy from the portal that could be a starter.

Just remember it wasn't until his 4th season here that Banks showed us anything close to SEC caliber player.

I just hope we get the team fully healthy for a stretch of this season to see what they can really do. Hopefully that's where we are in March, JJJ back to 100% and Santi as well.

Hope we can get to 100%. Not sure how many minutes JJJ and Santi can give us. Both played through discomfort, it showed and they reaggravated their injuries. Need more time for them to fully heal, and the schedule isn't letting up. Nagging injuries at this point in the season is just something to manage.

That's awesome, and I don't have any VMs from dad for the same reason. He rarely called or texted me oddly enough, but I usually saw him and mom once a week so it just wasn't a thing. And like you when he did call I picked up.

Aeneas DiCosmo? I sure hope we are 4.6s guy outta HS at 6'3" and 230lbs+ he had a pretty good season for them but was playing behind other guys it looks like. I think he'd have 2 years left too.

Edit: the other Stanford LB is just as good too that's in the portal, would take either of them (both are bigger guys as well 6'3" 238 & 6'4" 238)

I’m trying to get through my first Christmas without my dad after a horrible Thanksgiving. Y’all are not helping with these stories lol….They’re actually wonderful hearing people tell how close they were.
I read years ago about a man that lost his daughter. He grieved and just couldn't get past it. Then he started having a dream of Angels walking in a circle and all of them had a candle. His daughter was with the angles and she had a candle as well but hers was not lit. This dream went on for several nights then one night in his dream he was able to ask her why wasn't her candle burning ? She looked at him and said "Your tears keep putting mine out" . Grieve because it is part of loss, remember because that keeps them with you and in time, smile because that makes their candle shine bright.

Unfortunately the rumors on Leach are true:

Suffered a massive heart attack and collapsed in his home. He wasn’t revived until after 10-15 min. There is belief he has brain damage.
Yeah, that long is no bueno. Even if the heart was re started brain death is probably there.

Yeah usually I don't like 5 or 6 days between games in Basketball season once things get going...but not playing Arizona until Saturday might be really good for us. Santi and JJJ getting more time between games to recover and Aidoo hopefully is over his illness as well by Saturday.

But I don't say this lightly, I really think this year's team is the deepest we've had in a long time where all 10-11 guys could be playing bigger minutes.

We didn't even see BJ Edwards yesterday and he's looked capable when we have seen him. But Awaka & Mashack have already been pretty big surprises with how well they've played so far and the more minutes they get the better they'll be. I actually think Awaka should have been on the court more in the 2nd half against Maryland, he shot 50% from FG and it was mostly on put backs. Something we didn't have as much in the 2nd half was offensive rebounds.

He thinks everyone we have is good and that all positions just need depth lol like no bro, we need starters
I said we need a top of the line guy…. Don’t need average to marginal players…just not a lot of those type of guys available….. most is just someone else’s trash.

Assault on a family member - strangulation... at 4am...

Beard has a wife and 3 daughters. What on earth happened that resulted in that.

The absolute best possible scenario here is that he was protected his children from an extended family member. But that seems unlikely...
I bet Texas is happy they fired successful kind Christian man Rick Barnes for psychotic abuser like Beard. Morans.
