More Veer and Shoot offenses are headed to the SEC. Arkansas, Ole Miss, Oklahoma, and Tennessee already run it. Auburn hired Phillip Montgomery as OC who ran the veer and shoot as OC at Baylor and as HC at Tulsa. South Carolina is hiring Dowell Loggains who learned the system under Kendall Briles at Arkansas. 6/16 SEC teams (including OU and Texas expansion) will run the Briles offense next year.
I’m glad our Hype and Shoot is the best current variation of the system

True but Loggains has been a disaster everytime he has called plays.

Not even a Titans fan and it was maddening…tho my Bears passed REPEATEDLY also. His success contributed to KC’s Director of Player Personnel landing our GM gig imo.
That draft pick of Bolden from Missou was also bigtime. That dude is a wrecker on defense. He straight stops momentum of anyone he hits. KC does their homework for sure.

I mean no offense Trippie...but if you don't want to start a freshmen MLB then we're rolling dice on a portal guy.

I'd rather see Perry and Herring getting more reps personally. We've got 4 of our secondary guys all from the portal and every season we've though they were going to help us in the secondary and so far it's not happened. So as nice as the big names are in the portal it's hard to be super excited by anyone when we've yet to really have a difference maker on defense come from there.

The bulk of our good defensive players and major contributors the last two seasons have all been developed guys we signed from HS or JuCo, haven't "hit" yet on a portal transfer really.
I've noticed that too. Walker was a solid contributor this year. I think Turrentine will grow into his role as he's still young. But Turnage, Hadden, Mitchell, Mohan, etc haven't exactly blown us away yet.

It's at least refreshing that we haven't had a single defensive player hit the portal that I know of. It's been offensive players. That tells me the defensive trusts/believes in their coaches and sees paths to playing time.

There's so much to balance, and getting the right fit and the right mix of experience and talent is important. We may not be familiar with some of the guys the coaches are focusing on, but these are players they think will fit seamlessly into the system and culture they've created. Some of the big names come with big demands, and many are looking to get more or go elsewhere. For every competitive portal prospect, there are dozens who were nudged out of programs for a reason-- much like ours were-- and will move down or out of football. The coaches also have to keep current players engaged until they feel they can afford to lose them. Maybe they'll develop; maybe they won't.

Fans hear a ticking clock; coaches see five more months to evaluate what they have and make changes to create the best team they can. We'll continue to lose guys as the staff upgrades the roster whenever and wherever they think they can.

I'm willing to bet the staff would like to evaluate the entire roster after spring before adding portal guys. Outside of TE and K (which we needed to move quick as possible on) and Tackle, they probably believe we have time to be patience at other positions. Plus with this new class and the vast majority being EEs, we may not have as many or big of needs as it appears. A lot will work itself out after Spring.

Losing my dad was the hardest thing I've ever gone through, and I'm still not really through it 6 years later.
Please don't take this the wrong way because I may not say it the right way.

You guys are fortunate to have a dad to miss. My parents divorced while I was too young to know my dad. I spent a couple summers with him when I was young. That's it. He has passed now and I didn't know him well enough to miss him.

Yeah usually I don't like 5 or 6 days between games in Basketball season once things get going...but not playing Arizona until Saturday might be really good for us. Santi and JJJ getting more time between games to recover and Aidoo hopefully is over his illness as well by Saturday.

But I don't say this lightly, I really think this year's team is the deepest we've had in a long time where all 10-11 guys could be playing bigger minutes.

We didn't even see BJ Edwards yesterday and he's looked capable when we have seen him. But Awaka & Mashack have already been pretty big surprises with how well they've played so far and the more minutes they get the better they'll be. I actually think Awaka should have been on the court more in the 2nd half against Maryland, he shot 50% from FG and it was mostly on put backs. Something we didn't have as much in the 2nd half was offensive rebounds.

We're going to need that depth. Not sure JJJ will be able to help us as much as we'd hoped. Setbacks aren't fun, and we miss his leadership on the floor. Santi isn't back to where we need him to be-- that shoulder is bothering him. We miss his offense. Awaka and JM have given us a boost, and Aidoo has stepped up-- glad we have them. We may have to grit our way to some wins, but the Vols are scrappy.

Crucial 6 day break here. Good timing Santi or JJJ may not get 100% but it's a good break still.

The good news is that the Vols already have several quality wins for the resume. If anything, the main focus should be having JJJ and Santi ready to go by December 29th, when we open conference play with Ole Miss.

SHOUT IT FROM THE ROOFTOPS

Hey ya'll, I'm a long time reader of this board, but I just started posting because I had a cool story bro moment that I had to share with the basketball forum.
Been reading this board for a long time, but I've got a cool story to share with yall.
Last weekend here on the Outer Banks our high school hosted a basketball tournament. Freddie's Word of God squad played a couple games. Of course I showed up in my bright orange jersey. After the game I got to speak with him and his family. He seems like a great kid and the entire family seemed shocked to meet a UT fan all the way out on the coast of North Carolina. I got a picture with him and the the family insisted on taking another one together. Looking forward to rooting for this kid for the short time I predict he'll be in Knoxville.

But, since I opened up and starting posting I had a question for the recruiting gurus here. My son is a sophomore and this past season he took over the starting QB job for his high school half way through the season. His team is not very good, a bunch of beach boys playing against some tough squads in Eastern North Carolina, but he settled in and made some plays for his squad. My question is: being from a school that is definitely not a football power how can he get noticed and in front of coaches if he did want to play in college? What steps should we be doing as a sophomore to give him exposure and make sure he is prepared to play at the next level? Any advice or info would be appreciated...
I am including his huddle highlights in case anyone is interested in checking them out.

We have 3 games in two weeks with the middle one being Austin Peay and the last one on December 28 at Ole Miss. Then, MSU at home on January 3. If they both legitimately can't play against Arizona, then you can almost sit them 3 weeks to finally get healthy.

Yeah, it feels like this will be transfer season every year. Us fans are going to have a wish list that varies greatly from the staff’s, and it’s going to drive us crazy watching the other kids in the neighborhood open the gifts we wanted while we end up with socks and sweaters.

But it may turn out we really did need socks and sweaters.

I for sure count the time I did have with my father as a great blessing, to make it to nearly 40 with both parents has been something I'm very thankful for. My wife lost her father at 23 and it was such a painful experience to go through, we had been married almost 2 years when he passed.

Wow. I'll tell you something. After getting caught up on Leach and reading these stories about Fathers and Sons, I am moved to emotion. I need to get myself together before returning to work. I will say this. At times Dads are forgotten. Much is expected of them without receiving much of the praise. True Dads are critical to a society as witnessed in this thread. It is a huge advantage for a child to have both parents. It is a huge advantage for sons and daughters to have their parents during the complex moments of their adult lives. After you all sharing your stories, I want to commit myself to being a great Dad and not just a good one. I need to make some changes and your stories just inspired me to do so. Lost my Dad when I was 40. My kids were 11. I remember year 1 when I always started calling him only to remember he was gone. The anniversary of his death doesn't make me sad anymore. The days I am struggling with work or at home makes me wish I had him at the other end of the phone. He had a knack for giving me what I needed. Whether it was a kick in the butt or just the calming nature of his voice and arms. I am finding I suppress more as I get older. Need to remember the lessons Valvano spoke to us when riddled with cancer.

"Number one is laugh. You should laugh every day. Number two is think, you should spend some time in thought. And number three is you should have your emotions moved to tears. Could be happiness or joy, but think about it. If you laugh, you think, and you cry, that's a full day. That's a heck of a day. You do that seven days a week, you're going to have something special."

Thank you all for moving me to tears today. I needed it. Alrighty then, time to wash my face and get back at it!

Those old Gibson and Harbormasters are solid boats. That one looks like it's in really good shape. Thing about those fiberglass hull boats is they don't rust like the old steel hull boats and fiberglass can be repaired. They also can be more affordable than aluminum hull boats. The downside is they are not as stable as aluminum or steel (never, ever, ever² buy a steel hull houseboat). When you step on these boats they tend to rock a bunch. That's also true when they encounter wake. Another issue is they typically put huge engines in these boats so they burn alot of fuel. I saw a refit on one of these one time where they fiberglassed up the transom holes and fabricated transom brackets for a pair of outboards. It worked great and created some additional storage from removing the engines.

Are you considering a purchase? I could call Travis and get the skinny on this boat if you want.
No, just dreaming, 😆. Everything is so expensive with upkeep and slip fees. Just missing my old boat I sold last year. It was an express-cruiser.

Found a 22ft express cruiser. It just seems like 22' would be too small to do anything with. They say it's surprisingly roomy, really good for 2 people to spend a weekend on. I'm just having a hard time believing it'd be big enough to be comfortable and small/agile enough to pull a skier.
