Yes we would have. Terrible hiring decisions are terrible hiring decisions whether the portal exists or not.

I think the job would have been more attractive. Good coaches didn’t want to touch those awful rosters with a ten foot pole. That’s part of why those coaching searches were always such debacles, with us landing our 7th or 8th option. No one wanted to take Butch’s 2017 squad and take on Alabama, Georgia and Florida. I think Tennessee’s job now looks completely different. Heupel has been exceptional, but he has clearly benefited from the transfer portal and NIL. I think it’s fun! And gives me so much hope for the future.

If they fire Vrabel I'm done as a Titans fan
Would be retarded as heck. Around League Circles Vrabel is considered a Top 5 coach. The offensive philosophy he’s trying to employ worked well before Downing got here. (10th in PPG, 4th in PPG) Downing will be replaced in short order. Just ludicrous radio bs. Typical sadly. Bishop needs to be tested for CTE when his brain is available for it. Terrible takes everyday

Not to mention the Niners (who everyone slobbers over for their offense) runs the exact same system. Just makes me laugh. People just don’t use their brains whatsoever.

I really like the NIL/transfer era

Tennessee would not have spent 15 years in the wilderness if these rules had always been in place
Perhaps - unfortunately I think if we still had the same leadership on campus (from President down to HC), we probably would have. No matter - those days are behind us now!

What's your score prediction for the title game tonight?

I've got UGA 38-24. . . hope I've got it backwards.

Will be nice if they will both score over 29.5, 😆

Bru, Keyton, Thornton for starters next year? Then obviously Squirrel will play a lot as well. I saw that Thornton can play inside or outside
My opinion is that Bru and Squirrel have starting spots as close to locked up as possible. Obviously, it is an open competition and things can change. I see Keyton as the most likely to win that other job. From analysis of Thornton from the Oregon people, I think it is possible early in the season that he is more of a "gadget-WR" where they find ways to get him the ball by design. Screens and go-routes. Possibly some WR jet sweeps. We will not sub during a drive. But hopefully he can get to a point where we can play him and give a WR a rest during a drive. Kind of rotate 4 guys into the 3 spots so that each one gets a rest. We just need somebody to be able to play both outside and slots positions to add versatility. And then you got Nimrod who is could very possibly insert himself.

Before they ran out of good WR/TE and their OL fell apart, I remember the Titans running a good, sometimes potent, offense.

They haven't run on 1st down, and abandoned play action the whole time that Vrabel has been there. In fact, their offense went from bottom half of the league year 1, to top half year 2, to top 3 year 3. Year 4 and year 5 under this crappy OC have undone the progress that they made their first 3 years. J Rob missing on draft picks caught up to the Titans as well.

The blueprint for a successful Titans team with the roster that they had was there.
Vrabel had the one seed in the AFC last year with Derrick hurt half the year and the most injuries in NFL history.

Like anyone who thinks he should be fired is idiotic.

Titans just need a great QB for the first time since Warren Moon.

Not a Mitchell fan, but his leaving does make me wonder about our ILB depth. Hopefully someone is ready to step up.

Agreed on all accounts. We can put some respect on Steve McNair's name, though.

I don't think we have a shot at getting Bryce Young. King's Ransom to solidify the franchise for at least the rest of the decade, and keep him away from Indy, is enticing.

We're going to have to embrace the suck next year and look at landing Williams, Maye, or Ewers. I think Young is better than all of them, though.

Could make for an uglier overall rebuild, but you have to have an elite QB these days. Young is pretty damn close to a sure thing.
