Right… all I was saying is that I don’t think he did enough on the football field to be a college football hall of fame coach, like someone else said.
Would you agree he should be in the college football hall of fame as an innovator? Put aside the coach part. As someone who innovated an offense that changed the game, is that hall of fame worthy?

Hmm.. maybe I just don’t understand what qualifies a HOFer.. I thought it was win/loss, championships, etc.
I think innovation should count. I think being a unique part of the college fabric should count. Win % is different in college football than most sports because it’s not an even playing field. .600 at Alabama, Tennessee, Michigan, and Ohio State would be a disappointment. .600 at TTU, WSU, and MSU is pretty damn good. Coach Leach was just different, didn’t want the glitz and spotlight. Just wanted to coach his way. I’m going to miss him something awful. RIP coach 🏴‍☠️

If I were to second guess our coaches on any one thing, it would be their tendency to TRUST their starters too much…specially at defensive back…particularly at safety. Walker was our best safety at the end of the season and I find it hard to believe he wasn’t ALL season.
Walker was a pleasant surprise. I suspect him coming in June made it hard to catch up vs 2 basically 4 year starters. McCullough seems to play good assignment football but his lack of speed shows enough for cringe moments. Flowers not so much speed, technique, or assignment Football, always seemed out of place. If Walker doesn’t start next season that means we’ve done some serious work in the portal…

CML is to college football what Weeb Eubanks was to the NFL. Will never be in any discussion for best coach all time, but changed the game all the same.

Nooo… all I said was I didn’t think he’s a hall of fame football coach when somebody brought it up.. that’s what started this whole thing and it’s all I’m talking about. Not discounting him as a fun, big personality guy that people liked
And he is due to his contribution to the game with the air raid offense

I’m just saying, if he was HOF worthy, you’d think he would’ve been coaching somewhere other than Mississippi state. UT and several other big time schools didn’t want him on multiple occasions. I’m very thankful for his personality being in the game for so long though.
Okay. There’s just a lot of football fans, coaches and players that disagree with you based on what he did for the game. But you don’t have to agree.

Can’t believe you went to who this board would pick.
You aren’t understanding… if he was a no doubt hall of fame level coach, why weren’t we all going nuts wanting him as our coach in our multiple searches? The same reason that no other big name school did.. he wasn’t a good enough coach

Nope, you completely missed the point. I posted that because it weird to post a recruiting pic from the coach that brought you to UT. It’s odd. It’s like posting a memory with a girl you used to date that didn’t end that awful but still awkward lol
I simply don't agree with your point. He's a player...not a fan. Pruitt's involvement in his life is clearly much different than our involvement with Pruitt. That's a unique memory for Banks and the fact that Pruitt was fired doesn't change that. I was never recruited by major college coaches, but I would imagine those home visits would be fond memories for me if I had...no matter what the future ended up holding for the coach. Maybe the point you're really trying to make is that it was awkward for you, a fan, to see that. I can understand that, but a lot of fans are just going to attack Banks for posting it because they think he's trying to send a message or something.

Y’all are emotional right now, I get it. We can have this convo a few years from now and see what we think then

He's a good coach, he just came with baggage. He was an eccentric personality. And he allegedly locked Craig James' son in a shed. But he also changed the game with the Air Raid offense. It's not as simple as you're trying to make it IMO.

I think we’d be inhuman not to be emotional right now.

And it’s not like Mike Leach’s name just appeared on this board this week. He’s been a mainstay and fan favorite on here for a while for a variety of reasons to include whether he would have been the right guy here. I contended he wasn’t because of personality style, but he was perfect for where he coached.

The CFB Hall of Fame is full of coaches (and players) that most have never heard of or would know about. Lots of FBS, FCS, D2 and D3 coaches that were trailblazers and coaches who never won national titles. Leach was a different guy with a different approach to life and football. That was reflected in the places that hired him to be a HC. He wasn't everyone's cup of tea and he made most of the staus quo uncomfortable. He helped change the way that offense is played in modern football and he set records at places that others wouldn't give a second look. By almost every metric, Mike Leach is a HOF coach.

Us? We’re pathetic when choosing coaches. Tennessee? Apparently our AD did want him and went after him only to be stopped by those in the AD that didn’t like him for personal reasons, and those who wanted their puppet as coach. Other schools? Not many of them do very well at choosing either. They pick every 3 or 4 years. And maybe they didn’t like that he was somewhat of a loose cannon saying whatever comes to mind. People that intelligent that March to the beat of their own drum tend to make others uneasy.

My 16 year old daughter is one of the best people I know..... Literally. I often wonder how such a flawed person could have anything to do with creating such a person.

I'm a proud father.
I think this every day with my Son. He’s a happily married father of two and that’s all I ever prayed for, and I did. I can’t imagine how G_D pulled it off.
