One could argue that this will be our best class ever in the 21st century. Butch’s 2015 class could be considered (30+ commits however) and Kiffins 2009 class would be up there too. This class has a higher numerical rank avg than both of those years
The defense rush attempts against was middle of the pack….. we faced the second most pass attempts in the country.
I had forgotten that last year containing a running QB was the major concern.Because almost every OC could see the path to success against our defense was through the air.
Last year, I don’t remember containing the run or pass. The scrambling QB runs alone counted for several losses. Run defense and QB contain was much better this year. Does give me hope.
I love talking football and am definitely open to talking about our weaknesses…. The only issue I have is most of the conversation is it’s based on emotion with no real facts added. Here are some examples:Ok now I am spending the whole season thinking about one game cause I mentioned it? I mention our most glaring weakness on the the defensive side an all the sudden I'm not enjoying the our successful season? LOL Its like if anyone says anything about our secondary we are horrible people. Its ok to talk about where we need help. Its ok to talk about what could make us better.
Was just listening to an interview with a guy that covered OU when ML was there as OC, and this is something I haven't heard mentioned. Of course, he changed the scope of college ball with the air raid, and even the NFL somewhat, but he was talking how much ML changed Texas high school football. Seeing his success at OU, and TxTech, most texas high schools changed their philosophy as well so hs school kids could be better recruited to the B12 by being familiar with the air raid.Any time a coach is credited with innovating an offensive/defensive scheme he deserves to be in the HOF. RIP Mike Leach
The poster I was replying to…. Claimed that teams ran the ball way more than average as well…. I was just correcting his false statements…. I would have passed on us for several reasons…. Urgency to score… mediocre/poor pass defense… etc.Because almost every OC could see the path to success against our defense was through the air.

I dont think its totally fair to judge a kid based on stats from where he is leaving. Sometimes it's just not a fit schematially. I give you Josh Norman as an example, he was great in Carolina, they sat in most a cover 2 scheme. When he signed with Washigton who played more man he struggled. If they have the intangibles and the coaches think they can teach them to play our style I think it's worth it to take a risk on a kid who's stats aren't great.I love talking football and am definitely open to talking about our weaknesses…. The only issue I have is most of the conversation is it’s based on emotion with no real facts added. Here are some examples:
1. Teams ran the ball a lot just like they passed the ball against us… it took two minutes to look up the stats to find out that was false.
2. Other teams dealt with the same injury situation that Tennessee did( no examples given)
3. We won’t Zach Arnett bc he would solve everything( look up stats and he gave up almost 2 more ppg than our defense did.
4. We need transfers bad…. I asked who everyone thinks would be better…. No examples were given except for Tony Grimes( looked up Tony Grimes and saw that he had struggled for the years on a pass defense that was as bad or worse than ours)
5. Been told how horrible WM is….. looked up stats and found out that WM time at UT before was some of our best secondary stats over the years.
6. I also found out that of the CBs that have played significant minutes in the NFL…. All of them have been coached by WM…. I asked when the last CB that played a significant role in the NFL that was coached by anyone other than WM…… Crickets***
If you want to discuss how to improve the team…. That’s great but bring facts and logic.

Mike Leach does not qualify for the College Football HOF on 1 of the criteria. 0.600 win percentage. His is 0.596. If he'd won 3 more games he'd qualify. In fact he probably hit 0.600 halfway through the season.
But the HOF has a special review process for unique cases, so he may be considered. Kinda like (iirc) Chris Lofton deserving to have his jersey retired but not technically qualified per UT's reqs.
Anyway, 3x Conference COY (2x Pac12, 1x Big12). 1x National COY. Has more (18) wins as an unranked team over ranked teams than any other coach. Broke school offensive records at UK, TTU, WSU, MSU that are still held. His players broke conference records at all schools. His coaching tree is breaking records all over the place.
His coaching tree is possibly more successful than Saban's. Just off the top of my head: Heupel, Lincoln Riley, Kliff Kingsbury, Sonny Dykes, Dave Aranda, Neal Brown, Holgorsen, Wes Welker, etc.
Saban's got Jimbo, Kirby, Kiffin, Napier, Muschamp, Pruitt, McElwain, Locksley, etc. Lots of guys who got fired, several guys (Like Kiffin and Butch Jones) who are only under his "tree" because of stints at Bama. Not because they came up through his program as a player or GA. That's an argument for another day.
Leach's offense, and his impact stretches across football at every level. It's changed the way the game has played. Leach would get in the HOF (I think) via a review committee as a "special case) for the impact he's had on the sport. Not on his coaching record alone.
