Recruiting Forum: Football Talk XI

I see both sides of things. I see some things are positive and good for UT & recruiting. I also see bad things and things that can be viewed as negative. The definition of a sunshine pumper is someone who ALWAYS claims things are a positive and in no way could ever be negative for/toward UT. Of course I don't really need to explain what a sunshine pumper is to you.

As I mentioned before, I get the feeling TJ is a take if his buddies follow him to UT. If Edoga and Griffin are not Vols, I doubt TJ is either. JMO

LV, you're missing the point, just like bruin did. People don't get tired of your posts at times because they are "negative" or a difference of opinion. People get tired of your posts at times because you (just like bruin) will take an argument or stance on something (like worrying/arguing/obsessing about the numbers) and run it into the ground, in every single thread.

I like you, LV, and I liked bruin. But hammering the same points, in every thread, day after day, gets old. JMO

Butch and co. proved in the '14 class that there's nothing to worry about with the numbers. They have a plan. So why worry?

Nothing wrong with any of that. That's not what makes you sound like like Bruin. Also, assuming that none of us ever see the other side is yet another thing like Bruin. It's your constant "sky is falling outlook". Just like Bruin you'll probably never be able to see what the masses are talking about.

If the point applies to multiple threads/situations, so be it. I see each recruit and situation differently. I agree they have a plan on the numbers. It's just not the "drop everyone needed to take a full class" like some seem to swear by. I'll be along for the 22015 recruiting ride just like everyone else. Can't wait to welcome in the 16-18 kids who decide to be Vols.

Good post, and like I said, add in that if anyone points this out or disagrees then everybody is sunshine pumpers and can't see the "other side". Just like Bruin.

Another good example here. You're blowing stuff out of proportion. Very few feel that way about dropping people if any, and it doesn't mean people "swear by it" because you saw a couple of people say it about one or two players.

Another thing is, that you can't do exactly what you claim others can't. You are only able to see one side of things or only see them one way.

They aren't going to drop everyone needed to make the numbers work. It will just work itself out naturally. A handful will leave after spring ball when they realize they won't be in the 2 deep for the rest of their career and want to go to a place where they can play, a few more will leave for the same reason in/after fall camp, and a few more during/after the season. Maybe even a couple are grade casualties/attitude issues.

Has Butch given you a reason to think he would cut good, hard working kids, who give their all for Tennessee? He doesn't strike me as the kind of guy who would do that. So, why are we worrying?

They'll sign 20-25.

Obviously you don't pay a lot of attention to what's said on here. It's ok. As long as your reading my posts and a part of my VN fan club I will let you continue your selective reading.

They may not like what I have to say, but they just keep on reading and keep talking about me. :)

Oh.... You mean just like it works out every other year?

Wow! This almost identical to Bruins posts. Lol! You will never see it buddy. It's obvious I pay much better attention than you.

Butch has me very confident he would not cut/drop kids who do the right thing. That is the reason I see the 2015 class as less than 20. Getting from 12 to 18 requires losing 6 kids. The "Duke" situation to me points to that being the case at least right now. If the class was going to be 20+, IMO Duke would have been a take right now.

Wow Nick, truly amazing. I could feel my own heart pounding as I ready your post. Glad that little fella is just fine.

Hey fellas, hopefully this will start your day off right. Today, I almost experienced the greatest tragedy of my life.

The family was getting ready to go out, (wife, 3 kids, myself) so I sent the kids out to the truck first, while we got the last stuff locked up, turned off, etc. A minute or two later, I hear the crash of metal. Immediately, I knew it was a vehicle hitting something. Running to the door, I see my truck had rolled about 15 feet down my sloping driveway into our large steel gate, which probably weighs over 1,000 pounds. The gate was visibly pretty dramatically bent from the momentum of the truck crashing into it.

Quickly scanning the yard, I see the three year old at the top of the hill, remember my oldest is inside, and right about the time I think, "Where is John-Michael" (aged 5), I hear him scream from behind the truck. Ladies and gentlemen...that moment, untold fear gripped my heart. What was I going to find behind that truck? My boy under a my back tire, broken legs, a crushed chest... my God!

I jumped off the porch, still wearing my socks with no shoes, and ran around the truck to see him pinned between the bumper and the crushed gate. I threw myself between the gate and truck and pressed with all I had. Stinking socks were giving me no traction, but I pushed that SOB and moved it a few inches back up the hill while forcing the gate off of my son. My wife had run out by that time and pulled him free as I held the truck back.

We really don't know what happened. The parking brake (stick shift) was still engaged. My son (who has had a steady diet of Iron Man, Captain American, Spider-man & Jesus) said he saw the truck rolling and jumped behind it to stop it.

I tell this story to give credit to God. I'm telling you, that child had not a single scratch. Not even a bruise. The gate, which was hit so hard it bent the steel angle iron, bars and broke welding will need to be repaired. How on earth he was pinned between the two and walked away... I give credit to God alone.

Needless to say, I was, and am emotionally exhausted from the experience. I'm going to get that truck's parking brake looked at and park it in 1st gear from now on.

Now, back to football.

Amen.

My son was badgering me last night to go to the park but I was too tired. As soon as I get off work that boy is going to the park...after a few hugs.

Awesome story nick! And praise be to God he is unhurt. By the way have you seen the movie Unbreakable with Bruce Willis? Has your son ever even been sick before? Haha.

We were down in Epcot at Disney about 3 weeks ago. Turned around and didnt see my 4 year old anywhere. Fear city. He was only "lost" for maybe 10-20 seconds or so, but my goodness, what your mind can do to you in that short amount of time!

Great story. My dad had spinal cord surgery last week (he is fine) and we were scared if it went bad he would be paralyzed from the neck down. I will never take for grante going to a game again. I will probably bawl like a baby when we go to our next game together in September when they run through the T

Nick, you're son was trying to be a hero. That's scary, but kind of an awesome line of thinking for him. Real glad to hear that he's alright. God is good.

Not even ashamed to say that I teared up reading this.

My five year old cracked her head wide open about three years ago. It was one of those things that you see happening before they happen, I saw her falling and reacted so fast I reached her before she hit the floor but after she hit the corner of the coffee table.

It's three years ago and I still kinda freak whenever she gets near a coffee table.

I say that not to compare stories or offer one in response but because I know how those events affect the parents.

Nick, thank God your kids were ok, man. That little five year old (and his parents) experienced a form of grace that cannot be understated.

Blessings to you and yours my friend.

Offer went out last night to Greater Atl Christian DB Darius Slayton per him and his family. 6'2 cornerback. Couldn't find a thread on him

I tell you all... there is nothing like that feeling, and the release of knowing that he is fine. There is just. no. way. that. happened.

I had to pull the gate out and back into it on purpose to bend it the other way, so I could actually get the truck out of the driveway, and that child is in perfect shape!

I got goose bumps from reading this. A miracle indeed...

My biggest fear for my sons are their lack of understanding of mortality. Of course, the alternative is a total understanding which no 8 year olds shouldn't have. I praise God every day that we live in an area where this reality is not in their face daily. I pray for the unfortunate children that have to experience this every day.
