Recruiting Forum: Football Talk XI

Am I the only one that is itching for good news in the 2015 class? Not necessarily a commitment, but ready for a big recruit to say we lead or something. Would be nice to have a guess at what QB, RB, TE, CBs and DTs we might land. Im not really worried about the OL because there are so many good guys that are high on UT.

That or for spring football to start. I'm anxious for one of the two to feed my addiction of Vol football!

After consecutive seasons of 5-7, 7-6, 6-7, 5-7, 5-7 and 5-7

My lord.

Every time I see our abysmal records over the past 6 (!) seasons, I still can't comprehend it. Three years in a row without a bowl. 4 of the past 6 years without a bowl.

I can't wait until this era of UT football is just a distant and painful memory.

QB for 2015 is shaping up as the key position. What is everyone thinking at this point? Seems like Gentry is giving off the most promising vibes. Who will we get vs who do we want?

Moving to zone blocking was IMO a mistake. These guys would have been so much better had they been allowed to execute what they'd practiced for three years.
Maybe short term molding the offense and defense to your players was the answer for the seniors and maybe juniors, but at the same time you have to stick to your style of coaching for long-term success. There should be no complaints about this. Jmo

Pic of the CB's (minus Coleman and Swafford) someone posted on VQ...

back row: Moseley, Devin Williams (walk on), Payne
front row: Foreman, Sutton, R. Jones

Foreman looks like he's taken weight lifting seriously and Moseley isn't skinny up top.

Dang Riyahd spent his Tahoe money on ink.

Oh and Foreman's underwear matches his shoes. Nice touch. Wasn't looking.

Accomplished under a strength coach that "is the same quality every year"..

If they have not played, and are still at UT after multiple years, why are you so sure they will just now decide to walk away to make room for someone else? Maybe the kid likes being a Vol? Maybe he loves being a part of UT football even if that means being a practice player and graduating as a VFL. If the kid is not seeing PT at UT now, I doubt the NFL is in his future. Is it crazy to think some may choose to stick with UT football wise and graduate from the school they chose to attend?

LV, as bad as it sounds, they may not have a choice. Athletic scholarships are issued on a per year basis. It isn't a guaranteed until you graduate scholarship. Like academic scholarships are based on maintaining a GPA, athletic scholarships are based on athletic as well as academic performance. This is why Walk-Ons can receive scholarships one year (if there are any left over), but not the next. They may choose to stick to the team, but that doesn't mean they will continue to receive their scholarship.

im confused at your post on page 38 then

anyway - imo - its not hard at all to find at least 11 that have a 5% chance or less at making the 2 deep in the fall - doesnt mean they won't play at all or get no ST snaps but there are a lot of guys in that list who have basically zero shot at the 2 deep

Correct, I made no sense. :)

Arkansas coach Bret Bielema, speaking at a meeting to the media at a Razorback Club, said he believes the proposal to not allow the ball to be snapped until at least 10 seconds run off the 40-second play clock will pass when the NCAA playing rules panel votes on March 6. He claims that if a player is injured there is no way for them to stop the clock if they are out of time-outs. Does the referee not stop a game if a player is injured? Maybe he doesn't know that. He claims there are death certificates to prove his point. What planet did Bielema come from? I bet his main problem is that their defensive co-ordinator can't call a play in less than 10 seconds. What a POS.

Fear mongering to shape policy to meet your needs/wants. Death panels all over again

If this goes through it has as much to do with preventing injuries as pass interference does about offensive linemen.
