Recruiting Forum: Football Talk XI

Two teams with the top conference record.

Tiebreakers would be crazy though cause you could have a lot of teams tied at the top some years.

Just doesn't translate like basketball in any case...tourney vs game

They said in our meeting that game is possibly being picked up by ESPN as well as the Hoover game.

Said the Hoover date is very likely to move up in the season to accommodate ESPN.

Hoover will prepare the team for the post season. They won't face a team nearly as tough all season.

Hoping they have a good showing. Jennings struggled against Oakland in that first game last year.

I nearly froze to death at the Play off game at OHS. Jack Jones is BY FAR the nastiest, meanest SOB on the field.

You had better have your head on a swivel when he's out there. I witnessed him crush no less than 15 Blackman guys not paying attention around the pile.

Dude is awesome.

Yes. Very glad to have Jack. That Oakland team is GOOD.

I think that would've been '05, then. IIRC, we were both ranked in...the teens?

Here's the thing though, throughout each program's history, it was rare to have both programs at the top of their games. Whenever there was a streak, it usually coincided with one of the program being down.

Neyland came before Bryant's time. Bryant came and laid waste to every coach we had except Dickey. Battle was our Derek Dooley of the 70's. Majors beat them just a handful of times in the late 70's early 80's but could never get over that hump, after. Fulmer made it his own personal mission to destroy all that encompassed the Crimson Tide (I'll always love that man for that, alone) but then Saban showed up and Fulmer checked out.

...and then there's the last almost-decade of suck. They've never been more dominant, both in the series and nationally, and we're scratching, clawing, and crawling our way out of our own self-destruction.

Ron's right, we're [over] due for a series turn...soon.

Battle much much > Dooley

I'll admit, I wasn't raised as a UT fan. I didn't even really care about college football for years. As a result, I have never seen UT beat UF or Alabama since I started following in about 2008. Now as an Alum, I hope to one day see UT win in person.

And I pray you will get to many times. There is nothing like it.

My grandfather is about to go into open heart bypass surgery in about an hour. Could I get some of those VN prayers for him. He's got more deer to kill and fish to catch yet.

Just catching up in this thread from last cpl days.

I'm pumped about the Tenndall hire. Our #1 question when Butch was hired is the same with CDT, can he recruit at a high level? I think he can and will. Just like CBJ, CDT had to work his way up from smaller schools with a lot less resources. Both had to scratch and claw 24/7 for everything and still had the success that they did at both previous places. Once a hungry coach like that is finally given a chance at a place like UT with plentiful resources/facilities and he truly views this as a destination/dream job and truly believes in the potential of the program the big-time recruits will come.

Especially when you go from pulling up to a kid's house in a rental car with directional U on your shirt after a long greyhound bus ride to pulling up to a kid's house with a full police escort or whatever else fresh off a private jet and then step out with the Power T on your shirt. As long as CDT is as well liked as everyone has said and approaches recruiting relentlessly like he's had to in the past I'm not worried about it. Going out and getting a Thig-type of guy on staff wouldn't hurt either.

I still can't believe we got lucky enough, imo, for Zo to leave on his own when it looked like we were stuck with Mr boring for at least another year. I like Zo as a person and wish him well but he never made me feel like he was the guy to get this program to where it can and should be. I think our luck is finally starting to turn around. I said multiple times this year that Zo was the Dooley of hoops and we're one good hoops coach away from being a force in all 3 big men's sports. I think we may have just found our hoops coach. It's on now!

Look out, SEC! The Big Orange is on the come up like never before! V,B!

Praying all goes well and he recovers quickly.

As far as the bama game in football. Gotta keep it. As bad as it freaking kills me to lose to them lately it's still the most anticipated game for me every year(from growing up down there and listening to the idiots). One of best rivalries in cfb when both teams are doing well. Yeah, it sucks right now but I just don't see them being as dominant as they have been these last 5 years again these next 5 years. Plus their schedule isn't getting easier.

You now have A&M in the west to go along with an always tough LSU as well as up and coming teams like Ole Miss, Auburn (if you wanna call them that coming off a NCG appearance) and now UT that they have to play every year. 4 outta 5 of those teams run the exact up tempo offense that Saban hates. Whether he bolts for another job or his path to the NCG is simply getting tougher in an already tough league, I just don't see them winning 3 outta 5 again. JMO BUCK FAMA!

Will be thinking of ya Glich. I wish my grandfather was still here with us. He was a trip.

As far as Tyndall and the bball recruits, didn't he let go basically the entire team his first year at USM? I may be thinking of someone else but thought he cleaned house except for like 3 or 4 players.

It may not actually be a bad thing. I know it sucks for current players that have kinda waited their turn to play and the recruits we've already lost but next year is gonna be a rebuilding years anyways, right? Why not go ahead and clean house and bring in guys that fit his system better instead of trying to make guys that maybe don't fit his system as well fit?

Like I said, I know it sucks to see VFL's leave, it really does, but if CDT can bring in guys he feels he can win with a lot sooner I say let him do it. Turnover always happens in a coaching change. Who knows, if he can add some key guys that he feels will shine in his system (regardless of how many stars they have, he knows who fits) it may not end up being as much of a rebuilding year like most of us are expecting as of now.

If he cleaned house year 1 at USM like I thought he did except for 3-4 guys and won 56 games in 2 years.....let's get this thing going. Lord knows Volnation doesn't have any patience. JMO
