Recruiting Forum: Football Talk XI

My guess is there will be another 3-4 by September and 3-4 more before Christmas. And 25 will be the number on NSD.

Keep in mind that anyone that leaves before August 2015 will open a spot in the current class. I think it's highly likely we shoot for 23-25 in this class. The tough part is trying to find room for EE's in for the '15 class. Any openings now will directly open a spot for EE's.

My dad used to work in college athletics and was burnt out of it. When I was real young, I knew who the Tennessee Vols were because I knew I lived in Tennessee, but didn't follow them closely. When the Titans came to Nashville, they became my favorite team. It wasn't until later in HS when I discovered how great college football is. Especially once I started looking around at colleges to attend. Naturally, I started following and rooting for the Vols and knew I was a Vol.

Spring Practice for Blackman starts Monday. Updates on Jauan Jennings (and more importantly volatil Jr LOL) throughout the week.

Allow me to tell you the reason Bama is our biggest rival to me.

1985 my dad bought 2 tickets from his Bama alum boss to watch Tony Robinson and the Vols play in Birmingham. Little did my dad know that these seats were smack dab in the middle of long time Bama season ticket holder section. We were getting snide remarks from just about everyone we came in contact with, including the hot dog vendors.

I will never forget one remark though. I was 12 years old at the time. Some toothless moron walks up to me at halftime and says "I'd rather have a sister in a whore house than a brother play football at UT". My dad who was very conservative and quiet promptly stands, grabs said redneck by his sleeveless sweat shirt and says "MFer, you're more likely to have the first one".

Prior to this event, my dad had reprimanded me several times for hitting this little old lady in the back of the head with my orange and white shaker whenever the Vols did something good. He took my shaker away from me at one point. After the neck scurried away, my dad handed the shaker back and said "wear it out".

Greatest Vol memory ever for me.

Great story.

The only thing that would've made it better was if your dad replaced the shaker with a hammer.

jk....kinda

I've been to many TN/al games and my experiences with them have been simular to yours. My favorate was 95 in birmingham. Was sitting right in the middle of a cimson inbred section. Me and my friend was the only ones wearing orange, and probably one of the few who walked upright :), but we were in the endzone that Joey Kent ran right to on the first play. If he would have ran about halfway up into the stands he'd ran right between us.

Word is Cofer may or may not want a release. Also Pops is likely getting kicked to the curb.

Donnie Knoxville is making moves. Not thrilled to see the recruits go, some of the current players need to go. REALLY hope we keep Cofer.

We need Cofer.

We had a parents meeting last week and one of the coaches said congrats to Charlie and his scholarship offer. I haven't heard to where but that kid is good.

Very.

Any WR's looking to make some noise this year? I know they struggled with drops last year. Jennings/Davis is a great backfield.

We had a kid on the Freshman team that jr played on that was unreal. Kid had the frame of NFL WR already and caught everything. Coaches wanted to move him to TE and word is he isn't coming back.

Every game my dad would elbow me and say "you need to get that kid's autograph for me".

Wow. That sounds like a huge mistake.

Blackman's certainly not lacking talent anymore like the old days. Oakland/Blackman battle again next season.

Can't wait to watch.

I'm surprised Cornish wants to leave. He seemed all Vol no matter what. Maybe it is a mutual agreement.

Sounds like it was.

On Austin and Cornish

Obviously it's out there that both have asked for their releases.

Austin is not very surprising as I noted in another thread, have had a couple of people tell me that his father has been calling multiple schools since Zo left, trying to find someone interested in his son.

From a depth standpoint, obviously losing someone who might be able to help at point guard is a blow.

As for Cornish, I don't know any specifics and hadn't heard that he was looking around, but I wouldn't be surprised if we were to later learn that Tyndall stopped well short of putting on the fullcourt press in trying to keep him in the fold. I'm not trying to slam the kid in the least, but as a fan, I wouldn't be feeling like Tennessee just lost an enormously talented player.

Eh he really like Kwanzo.

Right now 4 spots are open with 2 recruits still being held to their LOIs (for now). Then say a few players are forced out and we could have anywhere from 5-8 schollies to throw around the next few weeks to months.

Only 4 guys are pretty much locks unless they transfer (J-Rich, Moore, Thompson, Hubbs). I would also say Davis should stay. Seems to fit what we do well.

They said in our meeting that game is possibly being picked up by ESPN as well as the Hoover game.

Said the Hoover date is very likely to move up in the season to accommodate ESPN.
