Recruiting Forum: Football Talk XI

Anyone have any suggestions for the class Statistics? I'm working on my Masters and put this class off to the very last. Can't avoid it any longer. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I got my book in the mail yesterday and this looks really tough.

:) Where you at LV?:)

I had a love/hate relationship with my statistics class. There's parts of it that are actually pretty cool, but some of it blew my mind. My only advice is to work "gobs and gobs of problems" as one of my professors used to say. That was the only way I made it through engineering.

This is my last required class to get into an NP program. I haven't taken math in YEARS.

I have already read and worked through 2 chapters of this text since this am. I hope it gets better.

About time. :)

Better late than never, right? :)

Finally ran you out of the football forum 'eh?

Nah, I just figure this is a good place to hang out between May and August. I love summer, but as a sports fan, it's the longest time of the year. So, thank goodness for 'CRUITIN'. Long live King Jones.

Cool story bro? Anyone? It's slow today so here goes. I was working in this guys back yard today in Martin, TN when a helicopter started to approach. Amigos damn near took off in the woods ( la migra ). Anyway it lands in the field behind the house, guy gets out in everyday work attire and heads toward the house. He shared pleasantries with us as he proceeded inside to eat lunch with his wife. After eating and a smooch he headed back out to the helicopter, telling us to enjoy the nice day yada, got in, flew off back to work. Beast. I will never consider myself a badass again. Kinda reminded me of myself a little actually, and Butch. Anyway thought it was awesome good day GBO!

No doubt was one of my favorite classes. Liked it so much I took Stats II. Business major so it was right up my alley and something I used a great deal over the next 4 decades. It's worth the effort. You will end up using aspects of it with your personal decisions and finances through the years.

Blessings and prayers your way, good sir.

I'm half way through mine but in the same boat...will have to take it as my very last class. Done in January though...

Martin, you say? Would this person happen to be from Egypt?

Got a tiny bit of info. that some of you guys may appreciate. My step son worked out with TKjr yesterday, weights, receiver / db drills, etc. Step son is a sophomore D-II receiver with pretty descent speed and hands. He told me that in 10 reps. (QB to rec. with TK covering) he only caught 2 passes. Said TK is a straight up "lockdown" db. Said his instincts and coverage are unreal.
Anyway, brighter days are ahead guys!

Edit:
Forgot to mention, Devrin Young was also present. He bench pressed 405 lbs for two reps. For any of you guys that aren't familiar with lift #'s, that's freakin' stout for someone under 200 lbs!
Really hope DY has a breakout year.

So a DII WR snags two catches on UT's supposed stud, incoming freshmen that has already been proclaimed by some as having one of the starting safety positions locked down & this is considered a positive thing by UT fans?

Brighter days ahead? Lol, I'm not seeing the connection.

You might want to read my post again. Read it slower, you'll comprehend it better. Lol

2 catchers in 10 targets in man to man against a safety is bad?

An Early Look At 5 Potential SEC Upsets

October 4, 2014: Florida at Tennessee

It's been a long time since the Vols defeated Florida, but 2014 could be end of their nine-year losing streak.

Let's face it, as good as Florida's defense has been under fourth-year head coach Will Muschamp, there has not been an offensive identity, and there still isn't. Tyler Murphy's gone after transferring while Jeff Driskel returns after a major injury and is working with a new offensive coordinator. The jury is still out on the signal caller.

Much of Tennessee's young talent enrolled early and went through spring drills, which the Vols hope will make for an easier transition to fall camp. The Florida game has been pushed back to October, which allows UT to get a feel for its offensive identity after meaningful September games. The team should be polished enough to compete against the stout Gators defensive attack.

"Wide Receiver U" is resurfacing on Rocky Top with Jason Croom, Josh Malone, Marquez North, Von Pearson and Josh Smith. It helps to have true freshman Jalen Hurd in the backfield, too. The Vols' young offensive talent could be enough as the Gators may not be able to score enough to beat Tennessee.

I'm sure you've seen video of the WR/DB drills they do at camps. I've seen clips where they give the WR several seconds and three or four moves to try to dislodge the DB (I remember this pretty vividly in a DeAnthony Arnett video, for example).

Those drills favor the WR, and for a safety to shut down even a D-II receiver on an island 80% of the time is pretty impressive given the context.

Lol, not where I come from brotha! Hell, even Dion Sanders would occasionally get beat on a good cut by a WR (not often though).

I comprehended the post just fine on my initial attempt.

I never stated that 2 catches in 10 targets against man-to-man coverage was bad. I simply stated that I didn't think that necessarily indicated that UT football's program was on the rise. And, while Deion Sanders might have occasionally (very, very rarely) gotten beat, I highly doubt there were very many instances it was by a DII WR.

I would assume, and certainly hope, that all UT football players would hold their own, if not completely dominate a 1-on-1 matchup with a DII football player. That should be the result every single time without exception.

All things being equal, a safety limiting a WR to only 2 catches out of 10 attempts in that man-to-man coverage scenario would be fairly solid. But all things were not equal in that match-up, or at least shouldn't have been.

Todd Kelly Jr. is a Division-1, SEC football recruit. Although he hasn't officially began his UT football career, he has already been touted & is expected to play a major role in UT's Defensive-Backfield this Fall with the possibility to earn a starting Safety spot. All due respect to your step-son, but he is a DII WR. UT doesn't play any DII schools. And for good reason. SEC football teams and their respective athletes are on a completely different talent level than DII football teams. When TKJ begins his UT football career this Fall, he will week-in & week-out be guarding the best Athletes in all of college-football.

My response wasn't intended to insult your step-son or to necessarily state that Todd Kelly Jr.'s performance against your step-son was terrible. The point I was attempting to make was simply that I don't believe that one particular performance in which TKJ limited a DII WR to 2 catches out of 10 attempts equates to UT's football team having a brighter future ahead. That should be the result every single time.

I am confident that you are extremely proud of your step-son's athletic accomplishments & you absolutely should be. The fact that he has been working out with & holding his own against a highly-regarded, Top-100 talent DI college football recruit is something to be proud of. Good luck to your step-son and in his future college football career.

Aztar's post above you explains it. These 1 on 1 drills are EXTREMELY reciever oriented. The few that I have seen give tons of space and moves to shake the DB, typically that doesn't happen in a game situation.

He's a SAFETY not a CORNER. My goodness dude you're picking at something. It's a padless drill in which he gave up two catches. Slant routes are kinda hard to stop in those settings. If the QB is throwing the ball ahead and you're trailing period it's almost impossible to stop. I can see if he got lit up but he gave up two passes. How many times will the SS have to lock a WR up seriously? Or will he be playing some sort of robber or zone coverage? What now? I guess you've never seen a kid from a D-II school ever catch a pass in a game versus a D-1 school. According to your logic it should never happen. SMDH
