Recruiting Forum: Football Talk XI

The permanent rival setup seems fair to me. The only team I see a big benefit to is Ole Miss, since I believe they will continue to perform well and Vandy is gonna drop off the map. Auburn, LSU, Texas A&M are deff no slouches as permanent rivals.

Ark-missou makes more sense than ark-s car. But scar-a&m doesn't really make sense other than they were the only two left.... But tradition has to start somewhere I guess. And they're both kinda up/strong right now.

I can't think of a west team that scar would make sense with, so it works.

You're still a youngster, Doc, enjoy life while you can. :hi: I'm 67 & feel like 80 after falling & breaking my fibula while backpacking in the Huachuca Mountains in AZ. I managed to hobble out for another mile with the help of my wife & friends...

Had surgery last Thursday - a plate & 7 screws. Surgeon said it was a spiral break where fibula bone joins the ankle. Still hurts like heck! Any advice for me (besides no hiking for a while)? :) Do you know what recovery time is?

Ouch. Here's to a fast recovery for you.

I'd deff like to see the conference go to the single table, 3 permanent rivals, 5 rotating games format and let the top 2 teams at the end play in the championship game. You get the best championship game and see every opponent twice every 4 years instead of twice every 12 years.

Not Doc, but 6-8 weeks is usually the time frame. Even though the fibula is a non-weightbearing bone, it still hurts, and being 'limited' for 6-8 weeks certainly sucks.

Good luck in your recovery, sir.

Bama, Florida, and Vandy?

Hi Kid,

Sorry about the fall and fracture. Bone will be healed in 8 weeks. May be able to weight bear sooner than that. The tricky part is if any of the ligaments were injured (ask your doc) as that may make recovery longer. Better to break fibula than tibia. Tibia bears all the weight. Fibula acts as a strut and anchor for muscls/ligaments.

Keep it elevated as much as possible to limit swelling. Swelling = increased pain.

Ice it as frequently as possible. Crushed ice with some water in a gallon ziplock bag will work great. That way it conforms to your ankle. Control swelling, control pain. Ice 20-30 minutes of every hour if needed. Just need to let skin recover between ice packs.

Hope that helps my Vol brother :hi:

Sitting in surgery center waiting room for my turn at colonoscopy...prep makes you older...i did drop 9 pounds in 12 hours though...when people tell me I am F.O.S., at least this morning I am not ! :)

How are you doing?

Feel for ya brother. Had one done a few yrs ago around age 30. The prep is 10 times worse than the procedure.
At least for one day of your life you are absolutely, without a doubt NOT full of sh!t. Lol

Unidentified Div I coach:

“They’re gonna be tough as sh!t. I know Tennessee fans don’t want to hear that after coach Martin and the whole ‘Tougher Breed’ thing, but they’ll be much tougher than Martin’s teams. You’ll see.”

And MTSU's color analyst:

“Those cats [the Vols] haven’t seen hard. They have no idea how hard he’s gonna make them work.”

Hmm...Pearl's energy with Martin's toughness? Once we get the players to meet the system, me likey.

For some reason when unidentified Div. I coaches cuss, I take them more seriously. Thanks for the post.

What's the latest on Pig? Is he gone?

Not for certain. I think if he wants to return then it's going to be up to him convincing his teammates and the leadership staff on the team to let him return. Safe to say there are fences to mend if it's going to happen starting in the wide receiver room.

Ruh roh Raggy. I think we are starting to get a little insight, as to why he wasn't with the team this spring. Must have been some altercations between players or something...or maybe he wasn't putting in the necessary work in the offseason and got called out, causing him to leave.

I get that players want an amount of privacy when they have "personal issues." We'd all want privacy.

Strangely by alluding to this unknown "personal issue" often yet calling for its hushed status, you make people even more curious about what's going on. It's like telling a friend, "I have a secret, but I can't tell you what it is." Naturally, that friend is going to want to know even more now.

This kind of thing played out with Janzen Jackson and at least several other players. News media guys would leak out little hints, and then continue to say they couldn't (or wouldn't) talk about it. Then stop talking about it already!
