Recruiting Forum: Football Talk XI

Pretty well Doc...going to the Oklahoma game in September...staying busy...apparently not as busy as you :). Got 5 years before my scheduled weight loss :scare:

When it is your time, ask for Suprep. No nearly as bad as Golytely. Not fun, but very important.

I am hoping to go to the sooner game too!
(Depends on son's baseball tourneys and daughters dance competitions though...)

Alright fellas, who do you think will be the startimg QB at the beginning of the year? Will he get benched for someone else later, and if so, what will be the reason why? What positives that he displays will be the reasoning for him starting?

Worley starts the season. Leadership on the field will get him the starting position. If he gets benched at some point it will be due to injury or severe lack of production.....JMO

Good debatable subject though.

Anyone know when the 2014 football schedule will be put on the VolNation homepage? Ready to look forward to the upcoming schedule than see the 2013 schedule.

Anyone? Freak, please? Thank you!

IMO, Worley starts the year...senior, leadership, chance to end his career right.

IF he is benched atp it's a coin-flip for me between Fergy and Dobbs. If he's benched it will be due to performance or injury. However, if he can be a good game manager I could see him starting all year.

If Fergy gets the nod, it will be because he finally turned the corner on the mental aspects. He has all the potential and big-play ability in the world. Can he just get his mind right? If Fergy gets rolling and is our starter, we could truly be in for a special season imo. I think he's that kinda QB.

If Dobbs takes the reins it will be due to his experience and again, potential. He's in the same boat as Fergy imo. If things start clicking we could be in for a treat.

Odd man out is Peterman. He just isn't at the others' level imo.

All that being said I don't really care who our QB is. I just want someone to emerge and never look back. That's our best case scenario...and the difference between another 5-7 season and the possibility of 7-8 wins. We must have a QB distance himself, our young guys on D must catch on quick when they report this summer, and our OL must gel as a cohesive unit.

This summer/fall is absolutely HUGE for this team. All the pieces are there, it's just a matter of fitting them into the right place. All I know is I'm so damn excited about the way things are looking and cannot wait to see what this team is made of. GBFO!!!!

For me, Worley starts as well. He'll make the least amount of mistakes in the summer, and has the most experience. However, I just think both Dobbs and Ferg give us greater potential (now by that I mean greater potential to be successful, but also a greater chance to take an unfortunate risk). Worley will have a few bumps in the road when he plays these SEC lines with this new starting o-line, and Coach will go with one of the young cats. Personally, I think Dobbs still holds a very minimal edge over Ferg ATP. So, imo, he'll get the first crack at it.

I think Saban hired Kiffin because he needed a proven QB coach with the departure of AJ. I actually hope Kiffin effs it up because living with Saban for a year under those circumstance could be pure hell.

Let me ask this question regarding our situation. Which QB do you think has the potential to have the highest scoring offense? And how many ppg do you think we will give up on defense? I think you take the QB that gets you as many offensive points as possible and I think that's either Dobbs or Ferguson, probably Riley.

Are Dobbs/Riley going to make mistakes? Yeah, probably, but at this point I think it's as much the responsibility of the QB coach as it is the player which is why the QB coach may want to play it safe even if it doesn't give us that much of a chance to win more games. jmo.

On the QB race, my hunch is Riley wins out. He's been doing something in practice since he got here that keeps making the coaches put him right behind Worley. He has all summer to work with the receivers and in the film room (due to that new rule). I think they put him through the ringer at the O&W game because they wanted to see how he'd handle it. I keep reading he easily has the best arm and surprising athleticism. I think he comes back from the summer as the most improved QB and wins the battle by mid-August.

With the talent he will have around him we can live with a few mistakes. Plus, CBJ won't want to be breaking in a new QB during what will likely be a make or break 2015 (given the lunacy of many in our fanbase).

I think we average at or above 30 pts a game, with most of that coming against the wieners on our schedule (e.g., Vandy, Chattanooga). I could see an elite defense like Bama totally shutting us down though with our issues on OL.

On balance we will be a lot of fun to watch even if we lose 5 or more games.

I think with this much time in the system both dobbs and rf should be ready to play. Unlike last year when noone but jw was ready

But knowing that CBj still benched jw. So I think he will give a young guy a shot as he know the ceiling is much higher. And if a young guy were to struggle it just makes for an easier playing time pitch to 2015 qbs
