Recruiting Forum: Football Talk XI

I heard this also, and he has one another personal issue that I will not mention.

Nothing in the world annoys me more on message boards than when people do this. No offense to you, just bothers the heck out of me. If you don't plan on sharing, don't advertise that you have info.

Did they put you in a boot? A splint made of cast material? If they talk about a cast, worse injury... (Or they expect you to be non-compliant :). )

It's two pieces of splint made of cast material with a gap of 1" in front & 3" in back. Then the whole leg is wrapped up like a dang mummy almost up to my knee. Hard to ice the leg with all the mummy thing in place! (or am I supposed to pull the wrap down first?)

How are you doing after your procedure?

FWIW, I agree with some of the other posters that Worley will start, Ferguson will back him up, & let Dobbs redshirt. Ferguson needs to eliminate turnovers before he can play against the SEC big boys, IMO.

So there's grade issues with Pig as well. Sounds like a tangled web he has to work through. I hope he's able to overcome for his sake.

Pig is going after CBJ's soft side. :) Coach, lemme back on the team. I be good. Promise. Please, please, please. lol

Just figure he butts heads with CZA (I'm not surprised) and he has grade issues. That appears to be the gist of the rumors.

I hope everything works out for everybody, however that is.

I like that we can bring more than one weapon....rifle, pistol, machete, bowie knife, and maybe a concealed surprise or two :)

I want opponent DCs to frequently have these thoughts, "What that eff is that? We don't have any dang film on that formation...

Crap, did not see that...another Tennessee 1st down/score. (I may lose my job over this game)"

A dream for UT, a nightmare for opponents.

:)

Flame Thrower, Grenade launcher, Gatling gun, Molotov cocktail. Those are the concealed surprises.

I remember reading about K Jackson might walk on a while back but what is the rumor that is going around now. I missed it I guess but I haven't been able to find anything new on him. Can some one hook a brother up?

I'm a pretty big Homer, but our Bama rivalry is nowhere close to the Iron Bowl. Other than that, great interview.

From my experience living in that horrible state for awhile I think the Tenn- Bama game is as big. The press would have you believe otherwise. What a lot of people here do not realize ( because we would never root for Vandy) is that there is a huge segment of fans that live there that root for whichever team they think looks best that year. They even joke about it before the season. If Auburn is down they vote for Bama or vice versa. It may not be that way statewide obviously. You get away from the campus of each school it is very much that way. I was shocked. From working down there and living there for awhile I can tell you that it was very much that way in many areas of the state. But they all want to beat Tennessee.

Agree. Best to just not say anything at all.

I think the latest is still from the end of March. No new updates that I know of and probably won't be until the summer or fall.

Hearing it is a possibility and he would like the opportunity. It's just something we are going to see if it works out for all parties involved.

Jayson Swain said today that it's a possibility but that's all he was going to say about it. If he's willing to admit that much on air, then there's something to it.

Nobody is going to want to hear this because I can be old school, but isn't players voting for a return of a fellow player after said player has screwed up kind of a Hat (LSU) type move? Realize the offense was less - but the principle stands. Northwestern would approve.

Whatever works. I just take a dim view of a guy getting a great opportunity to showcase his talents starting as a freshman and he just blows it off. It happens, but it sends a less than desirable message IMO.

I'm just not sure if you can equate the cases. The LSU kid sucker punched somebody and was booked for assault. From the sound of things, Pig was mostly being lazy and not listening being coachable.

In the former case, letting the team vote him back in was inappropriate because it's the athletic department's job to decide penalties for kids who break laws and/or hurt members of the general public. In the latter case, the only people being negatively affected by Pig's actions were his teammates (arguably coaches too I guess). It's a more appropriate situation to let the team vote on if a player can be reinstated.

If Worley is the QB, I want 70% completion rate.

Our man may not have the arm of Zeus, but he dang sure better be efficient with the ball if he is back there.

I thought his arm looked much better in the spring, however, I think it had more to do with his confidence level than the strengthening of his arm. This is why I give Worley the nod ATM, he seems more confident and therefore more productive in the offense.

Funny you should say that; he's done it before.

2011 MTSU 23/32 71.9%
2012 Alabama 3/4 75%
2012 Vanderbilt 8/11 72.7%
2013 APSU 11/13 84.6%

Those 4 games he had 4 TDs to only 1 Int. - so there's that too.

:)

I guess I don't agree very much with the recruiting aspect of our QB situation. First, I think we'll already have our 2015 QBs committed before the first game and second I think the QB commits will be watching our OLine recruitment/development as much or more than our guy under center this year. We're loaded at the other skill positions on offense but we appear to be very thin on QB protection. That's got to have them thinking. jmo.

I think we will be thin on QB protection potentially for the 2014 season

but for the 2015 season we will return every starter - everyone in the top 7 - and add in several big time recruits on the OL most likely

so I think the pitch to a QB that would start playing in 2015 would be that you will have a veteran OL, some talent on OL, and a ton to work with at the skill positions

im also not sure our 2014 OL will be as bad as many think - CBJ kind of tells you when he thinks they will be bad, a la WR's last year, and they were - he is saying they have gelled and started to come together so i am hopefully that they can be adequate

The problem with both lines will not be who starts at the beginning of the season. It will be depth issues and what happens if/when two or more players on the line are dinged up or out of the game.

Yeah, but that is averaging only 15 passes per game. We need to see that production weekly, with 25-30 passes per game. Then, we will be doing something right.

Butch kept getting on the WR's early in the year for some of Justin's problems. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt on accuracy and timing, though his arm limitations are clear. If he starts the entire year, and completes 70% of his passes, we are in a bowl game.

Here is my meaningless stat breakdown, like I am prone to do. :)

Last year, TN QB's averaged 28 passes per game. I'm going to assume our team is better this year, resulting in more offensive plays, so I'll say 30 passes per game this year.

Worley averaged 6.32 yards per attempt, at 55% completion %, with poor WR chemistry. Our WR corp has been boosted significantly, so the yards per attempt will increase to... let's say... 8.5, with his increased completion %.

All of that said, Justin Worley averages 255 yards passing per game this year... and that sounds just about right to me.

I think Ferguson wins out. The two words CBJ most often uses to describe what he wants out of a QB are consistent and playmaker. He regularly says Ferg is a playmaker. I think that attribute wins out over Worley's consistency.
