More info on Mike for those interested: Wegzyn completed 182 of 346 passes for 1,825 yards, six touchdowns and 10 interceptions as a redshirt freshman starter in 2012. He started the first two games of 2013 before being benched at halftime of the Minutemen’s loss to Maine. He made a spot start in place of injured starter A.J. Doyle against Northern Illinois. He completed 49 of 101 passes for 603 yards with three touchdowns and seven interceptions this season.

Apparently young Mike won the position in a QB battle, but then made bad decisions under pressure with the ball "froze in the pocket" as the UMASS coach said. Makes sense considering he is staring down his receivers in all of his highlights. He has potential, you can see it in the film, but I really don't see him beating out Worley. It'll be interesting to see what Bajakian and Butch can do with him, but he will certainly force Dobbs to continue his work on his passing ability. Mike is a waaaay better passer at this point.

Delayed boom?

One big, continuous boom for the next decade of Tennessee football. lol.

I am so very tired of Bammer this and gator that. This coach is smarter or that coach recruits better or Slime covers for them and ESPN hates us, etc. Volunteers kick azz and take names later no matter the odds. As Larkins said, they don't lay down for anybody. They don't take plays off or get pushed around. They will fight until the last breath is gone. I grew up in an era of Hacksaw and Kiner. My first game was as a pup watching Steve Delong totally destroy offensive lines from the old nose guard position. Reggie - what can I say about him that isn't already known. Everybody on here saw Al Wilson. It starts with in your face defense. The offense takes their cue from the defensive intensity. You can have all the show ponies you want on offense, if there is no physicality on it to go with kick butt D, forget it. You end up with what we have seen - losing.

That is how it works with winners. Attitude. We have not had the right attitude as coaches, players, fans, administration, even as a nation for a long time now. Making excuses for failure before it even happens makes me sick.

Rant over. Let's play some football.

JRM looks great in coverage.
The QBs certainly did struggle on day 3.
It's great to see us throwing quick slants. We didn't utilize that route any last year.

My favorite point of contention. Jake did none of the QBs any favors last season by not going to that simple play more often that helps any QB of any talent level to get in a rhythm. If a QB cannot throw a quick slant with the proper timing into the proper hole in the defense they need to find something else to do. It is a defining play of minimal competency in the passing game and is used by every HS and college in America. If an OC does not call that play at least several times a game in every game to a variety of position receivers he does not need to be an OC. IMO, of course.

Any chance Butch takes a transfer QB next year? I want to believe in Dobbs. I think he has things down mentally and leadership wise. Just needs better mechanics and decision making ability

I don't think so. IF Peterman were to decide to transfer or JJ did not fair well at QB early on MAYBE they look at options out there. With Kendall locked in and Johnson looking very good for 2017, the staff may roll with what they have got even if they lose one of those I mentioned. Dobbs, JJ, and Dormady will be a great battle for the 2015 QB job.

Last season I had a really hard time watching our QB play. Especially Dobbs who I realize was a Freshman. There were very few instances were I thought they played well. I am hopeful that someone can step up enough to not be a pure hindrance to the team.
IMO they just need to find what throws Worley can do repeatedly and with confidence (like Crompdaddy's roll out) and hit the repeat button. We should have the receivers to make the catch even in good coverage if it is just placed well.

I wonder sometimes if not naming a starter really helps.

Oh you can stop that madness.....

Its a reason Jaylen Watkins got moved to S halfway thru the season. Riggs and Maye were bad back there.

I just laugh at those who believe a player is good bc of the talent around them. If thats the case no top team should have AA. Ronald Darby is considered a top 5 CB but his numbers don't support the praise. Overrated or product of the talent FSU has?

Keep thinking VH3 is over hyped. This season and next draft will show why he's a top 3 CB.

No second guessing here...he is damn good...its team sport though and he has great defenders around him....how much he improves is going to determine how high he goes in the draft....he's gotta have the attitude to get better every time opportunity presents itself....that's how he will be a top 3 corner and have a long NFL career

Que AI interview...

We talkin about practice

Give me a freaking break with this QB talk. One bad PRACTICE does not mean we should write the season off.

EXAMPLE (listen closely)

Going into the 1998 season, the first few PRACTICES I read Tee Martin couldn't hit water from a boat and Peerless couldn't catch the Bird Flu in Beijing. Fulmer went as far as to tell Dickey when asked about the upcoming season "Doug, will you still love me if we don't win a game?" To which DD replied "of course I will still love you (pause) going to miss you but I will love you."

How did that season turn out?

Point is........... Chill the F out. It's early. Let's allow them to work through the mistakes. On the verge of something special here.

How long do you guys think it'll be before college football allows alcohol to be sold at games?
