Peterman grew up less than 50 miles from the Swamp, many of his friends and family are Gators, it was a homecoming for him, and a unreal amount of pressure. Not to mention the vaunted UT O-line from last season laid a complete egg.

The OL was 21st in the nation in sacks allowed last year and (edit) 5th the year before.

Yet they allowed a forced fumble on the first snap.

I don't recall much about that game other than the offensive line refusing to block The UF defensive line most of the first half. They did better in the second half after Peterman was knocked out of the game by injury.

Because peterman made the wrong protection call. His first start should have been at Neyland against a lower tier opponent

I agree with the second part. That Florida D-line was nasty. I don't think it had anything to do with protection call. It was a designed run.

That handoff was being fumbled before Fowler got there.

Nathan went to pull the ball back from Neal because the Dline was already in the backfield. Fowler forced that Fumble. If he didn't penetrate the line there wouldn't have been a fumble.

The OL let him by because peterman tried to change protections and that man would have been the RBs man

That play was on Peterman.

I felt like the coaching staff put Peterman in a pretty poor spot. Going on the road against a really good SEC defense in a tough crowd in his first real action. The playcalling wasn't really what I'd have expected in that scenario. It was like Bajakian and Butch had no intentions of easing him into the game, but just threw him to the wolves.

So I wouldn't judge him based on the UF game alone.

That play was on the OL. Not Nathan. I think it was Bullard #70 who didn't block anyone at all he made fowler go wide instead of blocking it wasn't because he changed up the protection.

I still think that Peterman was thrown out to the Wolves. He deserves another shot.

This.

Correct on the play as I remember it as well as Peterman being thrown to the wolves. That was the talk of the town when he got the nod. Most everybody wanted him to get a shot. But many wanted it to be in a more reasonable situation and game. It cost them the game and his whole season with the injury. Nate coming back and not transferring spoke volumes about his character to me. Whether he can be a gamer or not we will probably see at some point. But no way should he be shoved to the back because of what happened in Gainesville last season.

Just curious...why did Bray, Worley, and Peterman all wind up with broken hands? Even Dobbs was fighting some kind of hand injury. The only common theme was the OL. Something in the way they pass protected? Traded space for time in a way that put theirs or the defense's helmets where the QB's hand needed to be? Just wondering if any of the VN experts have a theory.

Honestly, it all sounds like a coincidence. Riley was a leg.

Four hands...the same OL...a coincidence? That strains statistical credibility.

Common injury for QBs. Hit thumb on a helmet following through. It's more than a coincidence that these QB's hang on to the football too long. Not open get rid of it. I have noticed a trend in college of QBS waiting too long.

Football is more rewarding when your team has an elite defense and at least a solid offense. We're gettin there boys and girls.

Can't wait

Sounds like it was a productive night. Butch bragged on the QBs and said the team brought it for the most part. Again singled out Barnett and Hurd as ballers.
