From all this, it strikes me as Peterman is doing a decent job with his reps with primarily the 2s and its solidifying himself as the 2nd QB.

It seems as if the idea for Peterman as the #1 is starting to get some heat (primarily from short practice videos, and media reports from people with limited access).

Makes zero sense to me. Most people who have seen almost all of practice still point to Worley.

"After talking to a few people Pig Howard had a strong night as well highlighted by a twisting catch just short of the goal line. He turned some heads tonight. Butch said Barnett continues to show up and is creating a role. Also said Hurd continues to get better, better and better."

I think Worley's the guy and always has been. Butch has just been putting pressure on him to make him and the team better. Senior leadership is going to carry Worley to the top of the pile.

The best news is seeing Peterman rising like a phoenix out of the swamp.

What if...

Peterman grabbed this bull by the horns and was the opening day starter?

*VN mind blown*

Anyone who plays quarterback for the Vols, I will pull for but I think we should remember that Peterman is going against the second team defense. I give him a lot of credit for staying the course when everyone had given up on him but I don't think its time to really consider him starting against Utah State. JMO

Just trying to catch up on some things tonight..

Hurd is a stud.
Barnett is a stud.
EB41 is underrated & will make some plays for us.
Passing game isn't catching on as quickly as we hoped.
Natedawg is working his azz off & will have a shot at winning the job.

Personally I hope Peterman does win it. He just had a bad deal that happened to him at Florida.

I also thought this was an interesting piece of info from Hubbs:

But one interesting note is that the receivers don't go against the defensive backs in one on one or 7 on 7 settings in the summer. It's Jones and Bajakian rule because of fear of injury. Apparently they have had those in the past. That's one reason the passing game has been a bit slow to get the timing down at least in the eyes of the quarterbacks.

I thought this was interesting as well.

Whenever I hear the softer approach to practicing, I always think back to the year Fulmer & Co essentially stopped tackling at practice. I forget which year it was, but I remember that when the season came around we couldn't tackle stationary dummies, let alone SEC opponents.

I see what you're saying, but there's a difference between practice and summer throwing sessions where coaches aren't involved. By all accounts CBJ runs very physical practices.

Biggest takeaway from Butch's interview: tight end competition and depth. That position will be a strength in the run and pass game.

That's more how I was taking it. Might take a bit to get timing ironed out, but there's a pretty high ceiling once the wrinkles are fixed.

Best thing that could happen for this year, next and beyond is Worley and Peterman battle for 1 and 2 and Dobbs is able to redshirt.

Oh I'm sure - I just think of that memory whenever I hear that softer approach, whether it's NFL, Vols, or another team.

I know it's standard practice, just brings backs bad memories

My guess is that Peterman really is our 2nd best as of now, which isn't saying much with this crew.

May be. It makes for a good story if he's really made the strides as has been indicated. I'm holding out hope the group as a whole is much better than at this point in time last year. Given one more year in the system, I expect nothing less.

I wouldn't mind seeing this starting front 4.

DE Curt Maggit
DT Saulsberry
DT O'Brien
DE Derek Barnett

and then you have Vereen, Jordan Willliams etc as back ups. The D-Line should be much improved

Can't argue with any of that - truly gentlemanly

With all the Peterman talk at QB, decided to watch the first half at UF again.

Brutal to watch. 6 possessions, 5 total pass yards, 4 TOs.

7 TOs in the first half combined. That's gotta be a record.

Just got to trust the coaches and let this one play out.
