IMO, Butch's comment is strong enough to lessen the speculation a bit and protect the interests of the team, while leaving a crack for contract negotiations

I don't think Butch is like Saban or is leaving. I'm saying coaches use these situations to their advantage.

How is that any better than what he said? Nick Saban said he would not be the coach of Alabama. Here is a little advise, don't believe a word any coach says when it comes to their name being brought up in a coaching search.

Having said that, I don't think bUTch is going anywhere any time soon. Mich will be looking for a proven name. I know bUTch has a proven record in the Big East, but so far in the best of the best, he still has a loosing record. He will not get more money at Mich than he would get at UT because of that, and I believe he wants to prove himself in the best conference. Why would he want to go back to a lesser conference for the same money, and have to start from scratch again, like he did here. JMO

Yes

"I'm not going to Alabama"

Nick Saban

This kinda proves that it wouldn't matter what he said, people could always just say "it's just coach speak". So let's just use our brains and hold on to the fact that he is recruiting hard and slowly helping us become a better football team. Nothing we can do about it if he leaves. We can burn that bridge when we get there.

He won't though.

this was his full statement:

“It’s not even worth discussing,” Jones said. “There’s no validity to it. I’m not going to waste your time or my time commenting on that. I think you’ll know how I feel.”

I guess I don't entirely understand this connection to Michigan that everyone is trying to make. Butch was born and raised in Michigan but so were a lot of other people that got out of there as quick as they could. Do you know many people that retired and moved from Tennessee to Michigan?
Butch played at Ferris State in Michigan but has never played for or coached at Michigan. People need to get over this silly crap. He's where he wants to be.

Why people think that Michigan would want him? He has not done enough here to warrant such thoughts.

So you are valuing Michigan greater than Tennessee?

There's more to a career than 20 games (10 of which were against top 10 opponents).

Butch is a winner. He will be here and win here.

Even if he was considering the raise and taking the job, it would all be eaten up in taxes. Don't know if Grantham is still governor there but if she is or someone like her the place is one big rotting cesspool. Think of the new TV show Gotham as Detroit. He would probably making more than anybody in the state and they would be preparing a new tax bracket just for him. There isn't enough money in the world.

I don't disagree. What we are saying is that Michigan just went through two coaches like we had. Imagine the reaction after Dooley if we hired a coach with an 8-12 record after two years at his current job

He isn't going anywhere, but even if he were it wouldn't be Michigan. We are already better than them and have a better roster that has virtually no seniors and another top 5 class coming in.

I think CBJ is great and will do well here. But I'd be livid if I was a Michigan fan and the "best" they could do was grab a Rich Rod disciple with a losing record after two years at the helm of his first power five school. I think MIchigan needs to go really big to win back their fanbase.

CBJ's career right now is tied to his success at Tennessee, and he needs to do more here before we really need to be concerned about others taking him IMO.

That said, I expect to be worried about these things in 2 or 3 years. We are about to really take off, I think.

Actually, Michigan is the lone place he would leave for.

If he turns down that job, we're set.

Why not Michigan St? Did he grow up a Michigan fan? One of my friends is from that side of the state and he grew up a MSU fan. Most of the people over there are.
