That's a good point too. Just poor decision making putting yourself in a position where you're passing a girl around the room. Freaking Dooley recruits.

I am not stating an opinion for sure one way or the other. Except to say if he was guilty he should definitely be gone.

But want to point out that it seems Butch and co. did suspend him while it was under investigation. And then when it was dismissed they basically had Lane and Orta's story vs the girl's story. And they treat their players like sons supposedly; so it looks like they sided with their players.

We don't know all the details yet. The media will pribably spin it to make it ugly no matter what. And it may end up being legitimately ugly. But until we know don't freak out just yet.

Volatil and Kingston u both make good points....tough spot all around for the parties involved....i dont have an opinion but at least the girl was 18...story sounded weird and I don't even wanna speculate... Too many questions left after reading that story....bad deal all around

This a bad situation all the way around.

If Marlin is innocent, he's guilty in people's minds.

If she did in fact get assaulted, this crime will go unpunished.

I think you could make the case that orta and lane should be kicked off for letting themselves get into the situation in the first place.

He was accused of sexual assault. Butch suspended him while they investigated, hence why he missed the last 4 spring practices and the O&W game. After the findings or lack there of, the girl decided not to press charges and Lane was reinstated back with the team.

Where's the problem?

Here's my stance on it. You guys can agree, disagree whatever. Its all opinion based and we all have opinions.

If a player on my football team were even accused of something as a egregious and disgusting as rape, he wouldn't be on the team anymore. I don't care about the extra stuff.

Now, on the the real situation. They decided not to kick him off the team. Okay. Now they get to deal with the backlash of their decision.

You can't operate on accusations alone is the only thing I'd say.

Sure, the second you have some kind of evidence one way or the other, you act.


The main thing is that this is a frigging nightmare on campuses right now. Volumes have been written about how murky the waters are, and the prevailing attitudes change almost weekly. The level of false accusations, recanted stories, and general confusion is massive. Colleges are struggling mightily with all of it because they're required to do "something" but so many times stories and accusations are retracted when Saturday night wears off.

I say all that just to point out that you can't knee jerk in these situations. If the DA and the police collect evidence and still decline to continue then I'm not sure what else could be done.

It's absokutley insane that yhis stayed under wraps for a year and a half.

The Florida situation was known the next morning.

Agreed. No different than Treon Harris, except Harris's "incident" happened in the midst of the Ray Rice/Adrien Petersen/Jameis Winston fiasco, which pretty much leaves the coach with no choice but to suspend the player immediately.

Did you read the article? Covering up generally means a crime HAPPENED...guy's innocent but Butch QUIETLY suspended him until the investigation was completed and THEN reinstated him...whilst not throwing him under the bus...not only not "terrible", but actually admirable...relic of the past tho with the events of the past few months.

Nothing I've seen makes me think anyone covered it up. They didnt shout it from the rafters, but that is not the same as covering it up.

Did you read the article?

The girl just had sex with Orta. I find it hard to believe her when she was just engaged in consensual sex moments before anything happened. Maybe Lana came onto her, idk. But she certainly put herself in a bad situation by having sex with football players while others watched in a dorm room.

^This. The easiest thing for Butch would have been to come out as forceful...especially with the crap going on at Vandy.

Agree...we should jettison every player that makes a poor decision! Should still be able to field a team. :unsure:
