after watching that SC game, I think anything is possible for these VOLS..

I agree. It was a shocking performance from the offense.

I just can't understand why Dobbs was buried all year. Surely he was torching our defenders in practice. Puzzling.

Looking at the playoff committee's top 25, you are NOT going to be able to skate with Ohio State pie schedule and get in there anymore. I really like it so far...

I hope a one loss Michigan State gets in for the sole purpose of not punishing a team for scheduling a tough out of conference opponent away. It's to set a precedent for the playoff committee moving forward. It might even entail bumping a one loss SEC team that has a more impressive overall resume.

So "Astro" it is then.

It is a part of building a program. Do well a few years in a row, move up to a better conference. Do well there and then move up to a better conference that will get you into the playoffs.

I just can't feel bad for a team that goes 8-0 against lackluster teams. Also, no trying to dog your thoughts on it POA. Hopefully I didn't come off as rude. :hi:

Im not talking about them getting into the playoffs. Im talking about them cracking the top 25. They are in the AP Poll, just not the committees rankings. And they are straight destroying teams. And then you have a 6-3 WVU (who is a good team) in the top 25.

That or you can't lose to a team as bad as this year's Virginia Tech and have it just be forgiven because it was early in the season (and everyone forgot about it).

I am not sure I can explain this, but my sense is that the Vols don't hit the boiling point with Dobbs, unless the kettle has been on the stove without him the first part of the season. In a way the rest of the offense needed to be "warmed up" to be able to support him effectively. If this doesn't happen who knows how things might have stalled.

A perfect example is Hurd's block on the the toss to Croom. And Croom sitting down into space for that matter. Hurd and Croom had gotten up to speed on their roles. They knew what was indicated in the dynamic flow of the game. Having the discipline and confidence of Worley in the early year allowed for great teaching opportunities to reach this level of offensive team performance. Second guessing doesn't solve anything. Strikes me as fascinating that the offensive kettle seems to have started whistling. I mark it up as a coaching accomplishment.

There can be little doubt there was a legitimate reason for it, be it Dobbs and his family's desire to redshirt or his inconsistency in practice. No way you can recruit the caliber of players UT is and keep the best ones on the bench. These kids all talk amongst themselves and there's not a thing CBJ and the staff might say that could overcome this sort of scuttlebutt. Future recruiting would crash and burn at a lightning pace.

The Dobbs situation reminds me of Any Given Sunday. The third-stringer comes in after the first two guys go down and just lights it up--much to his and everyone else's surprise.

Hit the big 3-0 today guys. Feeling old.

I am someone who hit 30 before you were born and have kids pushing 40. So What? You is what you is. We are here for only a flicker. Love every day; Love the Lord, your family, your friends. You bring nothing into this world and take nothing out of it. Make every day special by being here.

Thanks for this. Good stuff here.

Huh. I'm not sure I 100% agree with everything, but that's a very interesting way of looking at it. Well done.

Tennessee Vols' 10 most wanted prospects in the 2015 class

Can anybody with a sub tell us who Callahan thinks the top10 remaining prospects on our 2015 board are?

My guesses:

Richmond, Burrell, Frasier, Love, Sweet, Martin, Jefferson, Newsome, Ordway, Dauphine

I'm still not sure if you recruit according to position of need or best available. For instance, if a guy like Ricky Deberry wanted to commit to us I seriously doubt we'd turn him down even though I believe our defensive line class is very strong already. Is a guy like Ordway still on our board til NSD even though I think his commitment to Ole Miss appears solid?

You would think Ferguson must have known. Perhaps it is as some have said on here-- his family wanted him to redshirt and coach was respecting their wishes. .

No, Ferguson just quit because he wasn't named starter in spring. Dobbs was being redshirted because the staff felt he needed more development based off play in practice. He is already half a year ahead in his program and is on track to complete the 5 year course in 4 years

I agree. Ferguson had some problem that was his own.

I've been told Dobbs and/or his family requested a redshirt. I think Jones was fine with that as long as the team didn't need him. Jones needed him last year; they understood. Jones needed him this year; they understood again. It's not some weird or grand conspiracy. It's players, parents, and coaches taking an active role in making decisions for the player's career. This happens all the time.

The coaches had him on the bench because he didn't look head and shoulders above Worley in practice. By most accounts, he was behind both of them in the fall. The primary consideration was what is best for the team. The secondary consideration was Dobbs or his family asking for a redshirt for whatever reason they had. The coaches agreed...until they didn't.

Honestly, I don't understand why this Dobbs redshirt situation is hard to figure out with even the little bit of context we have.

Ah, I see where you are coming from. I just feel like the committee having a "Top 25" is stupid. If you aren't in the Top 4 then it doesn't matter where you are in that certain poll. You are either in or you are out of the playoff. It is just a stunt to create more hype for fans.
