I would give Leach 5.5 to 7 mil and ask him to hire a badass recruiting Dc with a 1.5 mil guaranteed contract for both coordinators... that would let the country know we are serious

Clearly, we are not serious

The best we can hope for is that we are LSU getting Saban from Michigan St. Doeren's record isn't overly different than what Saban's was when he went from MSU to LSU (although Saban had a better conference record, Doeren has 2 Conference titles from the MAC). LSU was also coming off an 8 loss season when they brought in Saban.

I know it's a stretch, but it is at least possible.

This is exactly what Haslam thrives on...TN fans starting to make a way for the hire to work; talk themselves into it, so that they support it, continue buying tickets and merchandise. This is why we are where we are after a decade of mediocrity. The fanbase is going to have to join together and say no. Stop making excuses for the hire and finding ways it might work, so they can support it.

He has 9 SR starters on D all 3*'s I believe. One is going to be a top 5 pick. If you think he can consistently duplicate that you are nuts. The defense was supposed to be a lot better than it ended up being. They underachieved.

Was the high draft pick a highly recruited kid or a diamond in the rough?

Brian Rice just said on the ainge show that he knows for a fact the Twitter stuff and everything is causing coaches not to pick up the phone.

VOL6479 circa 1776: Hey guys, we probably shouldn’t fight the British. Switzerland will stop taking our calls.

I've tried to sell myself this morning on Doeren. It's pretty much impossible. Sigh.

There is no way to sell yourself on this guy. No one should be excited but that doesn't mean there aren't some things about him that should give a glimmer of hope. As real fan everyone should support him if and when hired.

Sorry. I can't.

I'll just take a back seat and will ignore this cluster until things change.

If they never change -- oh well.

Any media member that points toward the fans as the cause of the problems hiring a quality hire is a Haslam crony or an idiot or both. Yes, fan reaction can keep a coach away. Guess what happens if DiPietro announces Currie is leaving and Jimmy Haslam is no longer involved in the coaching search as he will be focusing on the Browns and Pilot issues. Then he follows with Phil Fulmer will be taking the interim AD role and begin working on hiring the next HC of the Tennessee Vols.

Just like that, the mood changes, coaches become interested again.

That's really complicated isn't it?

Yeah, lets keep supporting the **** that keeps getting shoved down our throat and let our loyalty and passion be taken advantage of over and over again. That's definitely the best way to get us out of perpetual mediocrity.

The only ACC teams they beat this year with a winning record were 7-5 BC and 8-4 Louisville. They lost to Wake.

Do you think NCSU is an elite ACC program or something? They beat Petrino and the Heisman trophy winner QB. Not a bad win. Beat Jimbo. Close in others.
