"Thug" was originally a term for a member of the Thuggee cult in India under British rule.

Yep, straight up OG’s.

Very poor decision by JJ. But I don't see why he wasn't suspended indefinitely so the new HC could decide how to handle it. This staff is gone in four days, and they've been part of the problem. Let the new guy set the tone.

Sounds to me like that is what happened before he went on his rant. They sent him home. On his way home he got himself booted permantly.

College athletes do receive compensation, but for football players it's not equitable to what they bring the university. And I know the argument that it funds other non-revenue sports, but that's lazy. Even if the athletic department runs in the red it's a net positive for the university in the form of marketing. Alabama is a prime example of how their football program has led to an increase in out-of-state students and more money for the university.

I've never understand what about sports makes people want to limit what athletes can get. I couldn't imagine telling anyone else they should shut up and be happy with what they have instead of fight for the right to be compensated fairly.

Says the guy being sensitive and running to the defense of the broad use of the word thug. Calling people snowflakes is the silliest and most hypocritical crutch of the decade.

I never called you a snowflake. You are the one running to condemn everybody using the word thug. You are a race baiter, and always have been. You can spew the word racist at me with every breath you take for the rest of your life and it isn't bother me.

Gay meant happy in years past. The word was adopted by a grouping of people to change its meaning. It did for them, but not necessarily for everybody that knew the original definition of the word. That does not give the revisionists the right to vilify people for their use of the word as originally intended. Same with symbols.

Thug means what it means depending on the intention of the user. I was using the word as defined long before many of you were born. Some of you revise it to mean something different - that's your right. But you do not have that same right to vilify me for using it as originally defined.

It happens with many words including slang, such as "sick". That doesn't mean exceptional to me and many others.

I understand the point you are trying to make, but it’s my personal opinion that it is impossible and naive to think we should or can live in a world where people’s intentions aren’t questioned.

Arguing over the word thug and it’s contexts is lame. Can we go back to arguing whether Dan Mullen will or won’t be successful here? :)

Another bad example of how social media is negatively affecting our lives. He could have ranted to his teammmates, to his friends, and to his family. However, he did it all by himself, made a video by himself, and posted by himself....which was then viewed by thousands. Take social media out of the equation and people around him probably talk him down, he cools off, and probably balls out next year for the Vols. I do hope the next coach has a chance to at least talk to JJ though.

Pedantic again. You called me sensitive...not a snowflake (eye roll emoji)

What is race baiting about this? All I’ve done is try to explain why people don’t like the word being used to describe black people. Show me how I’ve done anything to the contrary.

You rant about the literal definition. We try to explain that it’s not about the definition, it’s about the intention behind it.

I can see why they sent him home, but no need to dismiss him from the team today. Suspend him indefinitely and let the new HC decide if and how JJ can work his way back. After being lax disciplinarians for two years, a lame duck staff becomes harda$$ right before checking out?

Well, now you made me upset because my intentions have been questioned. You are a racist.

Surely you can see how ridiculous that approach is.
