I think Mullens a decent coach and I agree he would do better than Butch. Wish we hired Mullen 8 years ago we would have won the East at least a few times. But the east is getting better with Kirby better than expected and UF likely upgrading at HC. Muschamp isnt as bad as many think, USC has already won 8 games with two left to play including bowl.
Point is Mullen is better than weve had since Fulmer but hes not a splash hire, hes not a guarantee to contend for the East each year going forward and quite frankly we can and should do better.
We fired our National Championship winning coach, made three bad hires after that, and have been irrelevant for a long time. We cant afford to gamble on guys like Mullen, Frost, Campbell or Taggart even though they are good coaches. We need a PROVEN BIG TIME WINNER this time.

Bass is a professional poster that will continue posting at an abnormally high rate no matter who the hire is. He has posted over 14,000 times since joining in June of 2016. Im also 95% sure that Bass and Chief Vol are the same person. I have them both on ignore, and it is almost comical how many times they post back to back within seconds of each other. My biggest reason I dont want Mullen to be hired: I dont want to listen to Bass complain about it for a whole offseason.
I don't think people fully understand
1) how unappealing this job is and
2) how unusual it is to hire a "proven" coach in the first place.
People see Gruden's name and assume that because a guy like that is interested that it logically means other coaches of similar prestige should be easy to get. But the truth is there's nothing about this job that makes it appealing to Gruden other than he has personal ties to the program. If those weren't there we'd be just like UCLA to him. A good school but not anything he'd ever look at.
Maybe we'll throw a ton of money at someone and they'll leave their good Power 5 job. Hopefully we can. But to say we HAVE to hit this hire out of the park and hire a Top 5 coach seems unrealistic. The fact we feel too good for Dan Mullen is comical.
