Saying Tennessee isn’t appealing is just giving cover to what has been a poorly run athletic department.

Tennessee is a very appealing job.

Washington isn’t an appealing job. They hired Peterson.

Hiring a big time coach is all about timing and the stars lining up. Michigan went from Hoke to Harbaugh. Did Michigan get more appealing? Or was it just the timing finally worked. If Harbaugh wins that SB they probably would’ve been talking to Butch.

It’s about timing. Saying Tennessee isn’t appealing is lazy.

It's so unfortunate Barnes can't recruit elite players, we would be a top 15-20 team. He can sure coach them up though.

It doesn't matter if it's not 1999 anymore.

UT has the tradition, the money, the fan base, the facilities and the recruiting base to easily become an elite program again.

Any one that doesn't think this job is top 15 anymore can get the **** out. It's not debateable. You are wrong.

This hire will tell the tale. We all agree with you. Do prospective coaches? That’s the question.

We appear like we are holding nothing back in trying to hit a home run. If we don’t, it won’t be the UTAD’s fault or some booster’s fault.

What will be the reason??

I'm laughing at all of the village idiots that are freaking out over the bball team losing to one of the best teams in the country.

USC promoted an unpopular interim and look how its turning out.

You’re missing my point. USC clearly didn’t need a “HOME RUN PROVEN COACH” at the time. They had a capable assistant to promote.

Who’s the capable assistant on UT staff you’d promote?

Well, Hoke DID show he can be a disciplinarian yesterday...

i don't think people fully understand

1) how unappealing this job is and

2) how unusual it is to hire a "proven" coach in the first place.

People see gruden's name and assume that because a guy like that is interested that it logically means other coaches of similar prestige should be easy to get. But the truth is there's nothing about this job that makes it appealing to gruden other than he has personal ties to the program. If those weren't there we'd be just like ucla to him. A good school but not anything he'd ever look at.

Maybe we'll throw a ton of money at someone and they'll leave their good power 5 job. Hopefully we can. But to say we have to hit this hire out of the park and hire a top 5 coach seems unrealistic. The fact we feel too good for dan mullen is comical.
