You guys have any opinions on Dan Mullen at Mississippi State??

Maybe it’s already been discussed on here a BILLION times without a SINGLE NEW point/counterpoint being made in the last two weeks and I missed it.

Currie does seem like a guy that will hire somebody from out in left field

If Taggart comes and brings his coordinators from Oregon, he would have immediate success at UT

Not sure Mullen is as far down as people think. Currie probably allowed boosters and others to run with the Gruden chase, and if something came out of it then great. However, I think Currie probably had a list of Peterson, Patterson, Mullen, Frost, Campbell in that order. Out of what Currie perceived as realistic choices, Mullen was most likely top 3 on the list. Once again, you go down the check list of what you want in a new HC in the SEC, and Mullen hits on every bullet point.

Like beating really good teams...how does he hit on that bullet point?

Campbell is an absolute roll of the dice, and to probably two thirds of the fan base, is a google hire. He's done some impressive things, but he's the riskiest hire of those commonly mentioned. Him over Gruden- who certainly is an unknown quantity in some respects- is madness.

Dude gruden has never been a college head coach. Hasn’t been in college since the early 90s. Meanwhile Campbell is at one of the worst programs in the country and has two top 5 wins on his resume. Only guy that can say he beat Oklahoma this year. I would be far more comfortable with Campbell than gruden and I bet a lot of other fans would be too when they googled his name and saw his resume

Tennessee fans saying things like Mullen isn't a good coach and doing stuff like voting for Kiffin over him on Swain's twitter poll are really making the rest of the UT fan base look stupid.

Mind you, If I was looking for attention and I was doing this to troll everyone. First of all I wouldn't have brought information that would of been proven right or wrong within 6 hours of posting it and I would of posted it in the Gruden forum not in the RF.

So a Fraternity brother of mine just sent a message in our pledge class groupme that his mom had lunch with Cindy Gruden today. Supposedly his family is good friends with the Gruden family. Well they decided to have a little discussion about Jon. Supposedly Cindy Gruden not only is on board with Jon coaching at Tennessee, but she actually wants him to coach at Tennessee. TIFWIW

My point is Butch didn't beat anyone worth a crap yet we hired him and we all bought in.

I don't see why Mullen would be any different.

Sure - that's the right approach. My biggest fear is we hire someone like Campbell, who is a very good coach and UT would be lauded national for hiring, but he goes 6-6 his first year and the Grumors are fired back up.

I will give any coach their first year. Within reason. Second year all the good coaches show big improvement.

Yep we still act like this is the 90s. This is a proud program and we are capable of greatness but it’s going to take time to rebuild. We are like 12th in the sec in winning percentage the past ten years. Dan Mullen is a good coach and would consistently win games here. We should be really happy if we get him

Why is it some of you guys can’t seem to grasp the concept that programs have peaks and valleys and just because we have been in a valley doesn’t mean that defines the worth of the program?

I know they may lose in just a second but dang this MSU freshman qb looks better than anything we’ve trotted out. Mullen can get qbs playing well for sure

Agree to disagree. With Gruden, you are paying a premium for the name, but with recruiting, its well worth it.

Mullen is a good enough coach to get us out of the valley. He pulled MSST out of a perennial state of being in a valley. Doing so while being the second tier team in his own state in the hardest division in college football. Put him in the SEC east, at a program with unbelievable fans, top notch facilities, and a new booming recruiting ground and watch him rise to stardom.

I never said it was Petrino. I said that I was told to not be surprised if it was Petrino. Petrino really wants the job and is aggressively going for it. If we miss on several coaches, I was told do not be surprised if it was Petrino

What he has done in the last 8 years is extraordinary though, but for some reason you don’t see it which is ok.
