Hubbs has pissed me off this whole search. I completely get not wanting to go out on a limb and take a guess on someone that could ruin credibility. I get that. But he owes it to his subscribers to admit he is in the dark and be honest instead of throwing out the same three names over and over when one (Campbell) has been said we’ve moved on from him by football scoop and Schiano just makes no sense.

Not necessarily true. I’m pretty sure they use those regularly throughout the winter and in months where the field gets poor lighting. Even sometimes when they’ve got it covered up.

Edit: also, those things don’t work quickly enough to make a difference in less than a few weeks at least.

IDT we've moved on from Campbell. I think we have coaches higher on the board and would prefer not to pay Campbell's buyout, but if we drop below Mullen, we have to hire somebody. Trot out Schiano and Currie will hear a loud chorus of checkbooks slamming shut.

Someone Hubbs uses as a source has said Schiano may be an option. He has no solid info if this is true or not, but it’s the one thing he has heard. Keep in mind this guy was waiting at the airport with everyone else. He’s having to give these bland, depressing responses because he doesn’t want to report off of message board rumors. If Currie wasn’t at the game, or left after pre-game festivities, it’s possible he could have hopped on a flight somewhere.

As for potential candidates, Mullen still seems to be Hubbs’s #1 even though he’s told pretty much everyone that’ll listen he’s staying in Starkville. I think he’s a high character guy and wouldn’t make those comments if he intended to leave.

Taggart would do well here. Probably not the splash everyone wants, but he’s got lots of upside, plus by the time Currie would have landed in the West Coast his game would have been close to being over.

Gruden. All hail 🙌👏🙌. Hubbs hates this option it seems.

Petersen would kill it. Plain and simple. Highly doubt he leaves though.

As far as everyone else, I really don’t want to hire any assistants. They could have plenty of upside but it just seems too risky a move with the situation we have.

I tend to keep to the montra of no news is good news, however news may be breaking within the next 12-14 hours it seems. We can only hope. As for Hubbs, he’s a good sports reporter. Doesn’t tend to speculate too much, and is a straight shooter. He likes his job and isn’t willing to put his rep on the line, unlike a lot of others.

I thinks campbell is a good coach, but my big concern with him is that he’s just not ready yet. Dude is still only 37-38 years old and has no experience as a player, assistant, or HC at a big time program.


We’d have to surround him with a hell of a staff to make it work, IMO.

Not true dude. You don't remember losing countless recruits to Vandy during his years? The guy got kids excited and on board. Cite an arbitrary ranking if you want, but Franklin knew how to intrigue people to his program then and he does now. Do you really think kids get excited when Dan Mullen comes to their house after being visited by Urban Meyer, Dabo and Saban? Do you really think Dan Mullen has that "it" personality that all great recruiters have? You have to have a stellar recruiter as a coach at Tennessee to even be competitive because of our necessity to recruit outside the state. You really think blue chips are going to get more excited because Mullen is wearing orange? Get real.

I think from now on, there should absolutely be a ban policy for anyone claiming insider status and making up claims that never come true. This includes somebody making **** up but then at the end putting an out like "of course things could change but this is what I'm hearing". Would cut a lot of BS out and would help us look less like fools.

Whoever the coach turns out to be, I actually feel sorry for him. Butch didn't leave him sh*t. Top to bottom, this is no doubt the worst, talentless, soft team I've ever seen.

QB's : Pitiful... JG or McBride shouldn't be SEC QB's
RB : Meh
WR : devoid of talent
OL : bush league

DL : bunch of pushovers
LB : Hardly Div III talent.
DB : Never seen worse

This is a 3 year rebuild, minimum.

Dobbs really was the difference.

Let's face the facts.... Tennessee is basically a collection of talentless players coached by a bunch of talentless coaches. It's going to take awhile to dig out of the sh*thole Butch put us in.
